Job Overview: The OGMP 2.0 Senior Upstream Expert will play a crucial role in supporting the engagement of upstream companies in the OGMP and providing technical advice to Programme Managers and member companies. The consultant will work closely with OGMP 2.0 companies to enhance the accuracy of methane emissions data quantification and reporting. They will leverage their knowledge of technologies and methodologies to assist companies in meeting OGMP reporting requirements. The role involves leading technical calls, providing guidance on implementation plans, and contributing to the development of technical documents and tools for methane emissions management. The consultant will also support the data analysis team with their industry expertise and report directly to the OGMP Manager.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will be responsible for leading the engagement of upstream companies from the MENA, Africa, and West Asia regions into the OGMP. This includes organizing technical calls with upstream members and potential members throughout the year to provide advice and support on technical topics. They will serve as the primary point of contact for selected OGMP 2.0 companies from the upstream segment. The consultant will guide companies in improving the accuracy of methane emissions data quantification and reporting, focusing on reducing uncertainty and ensuring data completeness. Additionally, they will lead the OGMP 2.0 assurance work, developing documentation to support verification of reported data. The consultant will also engage in technical task forces and contribute to the development of technical documents and tools for methane emissions detection, quantification, and mitigation.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in environmental sciences or engineering. A PhD is considered an asset. Alternatively, a first university degree combined with five additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced degree. At least ten years of relevant work experience in the oil and gas sector, specifically in emissions detection and quantification methodologies and technologies, as well as methane emissions mitigation, is required. Strong quantitative skills and experience in performing rigorous analyses and summarizing technical data for diverse audiences are desirable. A deep understanding of oil and gas equipment, facilities, and operations, particularly in upstream installations, is essential. Demonstrated expertise with methodologies and technologies for methane emissions detection, quantification, and mitigation within the oil and gas industry is mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree (master's degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as environmental sciences or engineering. A PhD is advantageous but not mandatory. Candidates with a first university degree and extensive experience in the relevant field may also be considered. Additional Notes: The expected duration of the consultancy is 12 months, and the position is remote. The consultant will be involved in various activities, including reviewing methodologies and technologies used by OGMP 2.0 companies for their annual reporting and implementation plans, analyzing data uncertainty, and contributing to the annual IMEO report. The consultant will also support recruitment efforts to expand the membership of OGMP 2.0 and help develop technical content for the annual in-person OGMP 2.0 Implementation Conference.
