Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will work under the direct supervision of the Political Affairs Officer within the Secretariat of Governing Bodies and Stakeholders. This role involves supporting the UN Environment Assembly and its subsidiary bodies, particularly the Committee of Permanent Representatives. The volunteer will contribute to the organization and preparation of intergovernmental meetings, assist in drafting meeting agendas and notes, and ensure effective communication with Member States and stakeholders. The position requires a proactive approach to managing documentation and logistics for meetings, as well as a commitment to enhancing the participation of civil society in decision-making processes. The volunteer will also engage in activities that promote volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Contribute to the Committee of Permanent Representatives (CPR) preparations and organization by assisting in the planning and execution of intergovernmental meetings, including drafting agendas, notes, and summaries.
  • Support the logistical arrangements for meetings, ensuring that all necessary documentation is prepared and accessible to participants.
  • Maintain a comprehensive roadmap of meetings to facilitate timely communication with Member States and stakeholders.
  • Liaise with presenters and teams to ensure proper documentation is uploaded to meeting portals.
  • Take detailed notes during meetings and produce draft summaries for distribution.
  • Assist in the organization of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) meetings, including planning and follow-up activities.
  • Manage communications with Member States and UNEP divisions to ensure smooth meeting preparations.
  • Support the management of the Secretariat of Governing Bodies’ email account and assist in disseminating information about UNEP activities.
  • Engage in UNV activities to strengthen knowledge of volunteerism and contribute to the UNV community.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment. Proficiency in using various electronic platforms for documentation management and meeting organization is essential. The ideal candidate should also have a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to promoting volunteerism and civil society engagement.

Educational Background:
A degree in political science, international relations, environmental studies, or a related field is required. Additional training or certifications in project management or communication would be advantageous.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 1-2 years of relevant experience in administrative support, event organization, or a related field. Experience working with international organizations or in a multicultural environment is highly desirable.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of other UN languages (such as French or Spanish) would be considered an asset.

Additional Notes:
The position is based in Nairobi, Kenya, which is a family duty station. The contract duration is specified, with the possibility of extensions based on funding and performance. UN Volunteers receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) to cover basic needs, and additional benefits such as life and health insurance, annual leave, and travel allowances are provided.
