Job Overview: The position of International Consultant involves providing expertise, skills, or knowledge for specific tasks or projects that are typically short-term in nature. The consultant may be engaged in various areas of work and can expect to undertake assignments that range from a few days to a maximum of 11 months, with the possibility of extension based on performance and organizational needs. The consultant may work from one of the Support Mechanism’s offices or remotely, and may also be required to participate in field missions as necessary. The role is crucial for supporting the governance processes of the Alliance, managing member engagement, and assisting in the development and implementation of national policies aimed at improving social protection, security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">food security, and sustainable agriculture.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a range of responsibilities including supporting governance processes by preparing for governance meetings, consolidating inputs from members and partners, and refining governance instruments and decision-making workflows. They will also manage membership engagement by reviewing and onboarding new members, ensuring effective communication, and facilitating participation in Alliance activities. Additionally, the consultant will assist Alliance members in developing and implementing policies and programs that focus on social protection, poverty eradication, food security, nutrition, and sustainable agriculture. This role requires a proactive approach to collaboration and communication with various stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess an advanced university degree from an institution recognized by the International Association of Universities (IAU)/UNESCO in fields such as international development, political sciences, social sciences, business administration, economics, or related areas. Relevant experience is categorized into three levels: at least one year for Category C, five years for Category B, and ten years for Category A, with a focus on international development, partnership, resource mobilization, and policy analysis related to food and nutrition security. A working knowledge of English is mandatory, and knowledge of a second FAO official language is considered an asset.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes an advanced university degree in relevant fields such as international development, political sciences, social sciences, business administration, economics, development economics, sociology, food security, nutrition, sustainable agriculture, or social protection. This educational foundation is essential for understanding the complexities of the issues the Alliance addresses.
Experience: The level of experience required varies by category: Category C requires at least one year of relevant experience, Category B requires at least five years, and Category A requires at least ten years of relevant experience in international development, partnership, and resource mobilization. Candidates should also have experience in policy advice and analysis related to food and nutrition security, agriculture, rural development, and social protection monitoring and evaluation.
Languages: A working knowledge of English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, knowledge of a second FAO official language, which includes Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish, is considered an asset. Proficiency in Portuguese is also desirable, as well as familiarity with other FAO official languages, which can enhance communication and collaboration within the organization.
