Job Overview:
The position of Online Volunteer - Copy Editor at UN Women involves providing editorial services for the NAP III Mid-term Review report. The primary function of this role is to make the report more concise while ensuring that key findings and insights are retained. The editor will be responsible for proofreading, editing, and rewriting sections of the report as necessary, adhering to the UN editorial style manual. This role is crucial in enhancing the clarity, readability, and logical flow of the report, which is essential for effective communication of the findings and recommendations related to the implementation of UNSCR 1325 in Uganda. The editor will work closely with the Programme Specialist Women Peace and security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security at UN Women Uganda, ensuring that the final document meets the required standards and effectively communicates the important messages regarding women's participation in peace and security processes.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Online Volunteer - Copy Editor include:
  • Providing editing, proofreading, and rewriting services for the NAP III Mid-term Review Report.
  • Making necessary revisions based on the UN editorial style manual.
  • Conducting content reduction and prioritization to eliminate unnecessary details while ensuring that key findings and insights are prominent. The report should be streamlined to a maximum of 35–40 pages without losing essential insights.
  • Improving clarity, readability, and logical flow of sections, which may involve reordering sections for logical flow (Introduction, Findings, Recommendations, Annexes).
  • Formatting and presentation, applying consistent headings, numbering, and styles throughout the document.
  • Grouping recommendations by actor in a matrix format specifying Who, What, When, and Resources required.
  • Ensuring the language and tone are concise, professional, and action-oriented while removing any jargon that may hinder understanding.

Required Qualifications:
The required qualifications for the Online Volunteer - Copy Editor position include:
  • Proven experience in editing and proofreading, particularly in a professional or academic context.
  • Familiarity with the UN editorial style manual and guidelines.
  • Strong command of the English language, with excellent grammar and writing skills.
