The United Nations Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) in North Macedonia is part of the broader UN system that works to support the country in achieving sustainable development goals. Job Overview:
This internship-position" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">internship position is designed to provide support to the Ministry of Energy and the UN Country Team (UNCT) in North Macedonia. The intern will engage in various activities that promote climate action, renewable energy, energy efficiency, and a just transition. The role involves coordination, knowledge management, communications, and event organization, all aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of initiatives related to energy transition and climate change. The intern will work closely with senior officials, including the Head of Office and other key personnel, to ensure the successful execution of projects and events that align with the UN's mission in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a range of tasks that include:
  • Joint Events & Coordination: Assisting in the planning and organization of joint UN-Government events, including workshops and consultations focused on energy transition and climate change. This includes preparing concept notes, meeting minutes, and logistical plans.
  • Project Development: Supporting the drafting and formatting of project proposals related to green transition and renewable energy, conducting background research, and contributing to analytical briefs.
  • Communications & Advocacy: Drafting communication products such as social media posts and event summaries to promote UN and Government initiatives.
  • Data & Technical Support: Collecting and organizing data relevant to energy and climate policy and assisting with the use of digital tools for analytics.
  • Logistics & Administration: Providing logistical support for meetings and preparing necessary documentation.
  • Other Tasks: Undertaking additional responsibilities as assigned by the RCO related to the energy transition and climate agenda.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria: be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent) or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). A field of study closely related to the internship is required, such as environmental studies, engineering, climate science, or public policy. Strong analytical and writing skills, excellent organizational abilities, and proficiency in MS Office applications are essential. Experience in research related to climate change and event organization is an asset, along with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have a background in fields relevant to the internship, including but not limited to environmental studies, engineering, energy systems, climate science, economics, social sciences, public policy, or communications. Applicants must be students in their final year of a bachelor’s degree program or have completed a bachelor’s, master’s, or Ph.D. program. Proof of enrollment or completion will be required during the application process.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a requirement for this internship, candidates should demonstrate relevant academic experience or internships in fields related to climate action, renewable energy, or public policy. Familiarity with research methodologies and event organization will be beneficial for the role.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position. Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is considered desirable, as it will enhance communication with local stakeholders and partners.
