Job Overview: The Electrician position at UNHCR involves a range of responsibilities focused on the maintenance, repair, overhaul, and rebuilding of diesel generators and other electrical appliances within UNHCR premises. Duties and Responsibilities: The Electrician will have a comprehensive set of duties including: ensuring that all new electrical installations meet safety and performance standards; identifying and advising on existing electrical installations that require remedial action; maintaining electrical installations to prevent hazards; overseeing maintenance activities on power generators; performing basic maintenance tasks such as checking oil levels and fuelling; identifying obsolete or unsafe equipment and recommending replacements; preparing a list of required spare parts; advising on the purchase of quality electrical materials; supervising electrical works assigned to external contractors; enforcing compliance with local and international electrical standards; conducting physical inventory checks; supporting risk management and decision-making processes; and performing other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience with a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include certificates in Electrical Studies, Electricity, and Electronics/Electro-Mechanics. The role requires functional skills in electrical equipment installation and maintenance, which are essential for the successful execution of job responsibilities. UN work experience is desirable but not mandatory.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
