Job Posting Organization:
The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in North Macedonia is dedicated to supporting national stakeholders in their efforts to accelerate digital transformation, promote innovation, and enhance private sector contributions towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The UNCT operates with a mission to foster sustainable development and improve the quality of life for all citizens in North Macedonia. The organization collaborates with various sectors including government, academia, and the private sector to implement initiatives that align with global sustainability efforts. Job Overview:
The intern will play a crucial role in supporting the UNCT's initiatives focused on digital transformation and private sector engagement. This position is designed for individuals who are eager to gain practical experience in a dynamic environment while contributing to significant projects that aim to foster innovation and sustainability. The intern will work closely with the Data Officer and the Economist, as well as coordinate with various UNCT members and private sector partners. The role involves engaging in research, event organization, and data management, all of which are essential for the successful execution of the UNCT's objectives. The intern will be expected to assist in drafting materials for events, support outreach efforts for the Private Sector Sustainability Forum, and contribute to the overall mission of promoting digitalization and sustainability in North Macedonia.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Digitalization Initiatives: Support coordination with UNCT activities that promote digitalization, including e-governance, digital inclusion, AI literacy, digital skills, startups, and innovation ecosystems. Conduct background research on digital transformation trends in North Macedonia and the Western Balkans. Assist in drafting briefs, concept notes, and meeting materials for digitalization-related events.
  • Private Sector Engagement: Support preparation, outreach, and logistics for the Private Sector Sustainability Forum, including managing invitations, agendas, speaker coordination, and follow-up actions. Assist with other activities related to private sector engagement and sustainability. Maintain and update the UN Private Sector Engagement Database.
  • Event Organization & Coordination: Contribute to the organization of workshops, roundtables, consultations, and public events related to digital transformation, innovation, technology, and AI. Provide support with event logistics, documentation, minutes, and participant coordination.
  • Data & Knowledge Management: Assist in data collection and analysis related to digitalization trends, private-sector sustainability practices, and SDG impact measurement. Help prepare dashboards or summaries for UNCT meetings and reporting.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties as requested by supervisors, demonstrating flexibility and a willingness to support various initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications:
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). While professional work experience is not required for applicants to the UN internship-programme" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Internship Programme, a field of study closely related to the internship is necessary. Relevant fields include technologies, engineering, economics, business administration, computer sciences, ICT, public policy, environmental studies, social sciences, engineering, communications, or related disciplines. Evidence of research or work experience (including volunteering) related to the topics outlined in the Terms of Reference (TOR) is highly valued. Applicants must be a student in the final year of their first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme. Strong research and writing skills in English are essential, along with an interest in digital transformation, private sector development, and the SDGs. Good organizational and communication abilities are also required.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this internship includes being enrolled in or having completed a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or being enrolled in or having completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Relevant fields of study include technologies, engineering, economics, business administration, computer sciences, ICT, public policy, environmental studies, social sciences, engineering, communications, or related disciplines. Applicants must provide proof of their educational status and may be required to submit an official certificate at a later stage.

Experience:
While professional work experience is not a prerequisite for this internship, applicants are encouraged to have relevant experience in fields related to digital transformation, private sector engagement, or sustainability. This can include academic projects, internships, volunteer work, or any other relevant activities that demonstrate a commitment to the field. Familiarity with data management and analysis, as well as experience in event organization, will be considered an asset.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as strong research and writing skills in English are required. Knowledge of Macedonian and Albanian is considered desirable, as it may enhance communication and engagement with local stakeholders and partners.
