Job Overview:
The position of Research Consultant at WOUGNET is crucial in addressing the challenges faced by women and girls in Uganda regarding digital access and literacy. The consultant will be responsible for mapping educational institutes, philanthropic organizations, corporate foundations, and private sector actors in the region. This mapping will identify key opportunities for engagement on the gender equality and women’s empowerment agenda. The consultant will also develop strategies for initiating and maintaining partnerships that align with WOUGNET's mission. The role requires a deep understanding of the development funding landscape in East Africa, particularly in Uganda, and aims to provide insights that will help diversify WOUGNET's funding partnerships and enhance collaboration on initiatives related to gender equality, digital innovation, and technology.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Conduct comprehensive mapping of educational institutes, philanthropic organizations, corporate foundations, and private sector actors in Uganda and the surrounding region.
  • Identify key opportunities for engagement that align with WOUGNET's mission of promoting gender equality and women's empowerment.
  • Develop strategies for initiating and maintaining partnerships with identified stakeholders.
  • Analyze the development funding landscape in East Africa, focusing on Uganda, to identify potential funding sources and partnership opportunities.
  • Provide critical insights and recommendations based on research findings to support WOUGNET's strategic objectives.
  • Collaborate with WOUGNET staff and partners to ensure alignment of research activities with organizational goals.
  • Prepare and present reports on research findings and partnership strategies to stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience in conducting research, particularly in the areas of gender equality, digital innovation, and technology.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey research findings and strategies.
  • Experience in partnership development and stakeholder engagement, particularly in the non-profit sector.
  • Familiarity with the development funding landscape in East Africa is highly desirable.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in social sciences, development studies, gender studies, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
The ideal candidate should have at least 3-5 years of relevant experience in research, partnership development, or program management within the non-profit sector, particularly focusing on gender equality and digital innovation.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Uganda would be an advantage, as it may facilitate better engagement with local stakeholders.
