Job Overview: The Associate Director, Technical, Bauchi will play a crucial role in the implementation of the EpiC project, specifically focusing on Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (MNCH/N) activities in Bauchi State. This position requires a strong technical and programmatic leadership to ensure that the project meets its objectives effectively. The Associate Director will coordinate state-level programming, ensuring that all activities align with national guidelines and the strategic goals of the EpiC project. The role involves engaging with various stakeholders, including government counterparts and partners, to foster collaboration and ensure the successful execution of health interventions. The Associate Director will also be responsible for monitoring the quality of implementation and addressing any operational challenges that may arise, thereby ensuring that the project delivers high-quality health services to the community.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide overall technical and programmatic leadership for MNCH/N implementation in Bauchi State.
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of state-level MNCH/N activities in accordance with national guidelines and EpiC strategies.
Supervise and provide strategic direction to state-level staff, including Senior Program Officers and other MNCH/N personnel.
Ensure effective integration of MNCH, Nutrition, Quality Improvement (QI), Primary Health Care (PHC), and community-based interventions.
Coordinate engagement with the State Ministry of Health (SMOH), State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA), Local Government Areas (LGAs), and implementing partners, representing the project in state-level technical forums.
Oversee implementation quality, track progress against work plans, and address operational or technical bottlenecks.
A minimum of 10 years of experience in MNCH/N technical leadership.
Formal training in MNCH, Nutrition, PHC strengthening, or quality improvement is an advantage.
Demonstrated knowledge of global practices, national MNCH policies, and PHC systems is highly desirable.
Proven program management skills, including experience in work planning, activity coordination, and monitoring progress against plans.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in a relevant field such as Public Health, Global Health, Medicine, Nursing, Nutrition, or Health Systems. This educational background is essential to ensure that the candidate has the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skills to effectively lead MNCH/N initiatives and navigate the complexities of health systems in Nigeria.
Experience: The position requires at least 10 years of relevant experience in technical leadership roles focused on Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health (MNCH/N). Candidates should have a proven track record of managing multidisciplinary teams and implementing health programs at the state or national level. Experience with U.S. Department of State-funded programs and engagement with various stakeholders is also advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with stakeholders. Proficiency in local languages spoken in Bauchi State would be considered a valuable asset, enhancing communication with community members and local partners.
Additional Notes: This position is full-time and based in Bauchi, Nigeria. The role may require travel up to 50% of the time to various project sites and meetings.
