Job Overview: The Financial Analyst position at CIMMYT is designed for a dynamic, self-motivated, and service-oriented professional who will be responsible for developing economic and financial analyses of the organization's investment projects. This role is crucial in providing real data on returns and risks associated with these projects, enabling informed decision-making. The Financial Analyst will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure that financial reports are accurate and comply with institutional standards and donor regulations. The position is based at CIMMYT’s campus in Texcoco, State of Mexico, which is strategically located 45 km northeast of Mexico City, allowing for collaboration with a wide range of partners and stakeholders in the agricultural sector.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Financial Analyst will have a comprehensive set of responsibilities, including but not limited to: reviewing information from the Country Mapping Template and Pipelines to create the Project Contract ID (PCID) in the system; filling and reviewing the ICC information; updating and maintaining the Elaboration Data Base (EDB); supporting the review of proposal budgets with a focus on Costing guidelines issued by CGIAR and compliance with institutional and donor regulations; assisting in the timely and accurate upload of project budgets into the financial system; providing agile responses to queries from the PFMU Supervisor and Financial Analyst; ensuring the timely preparation of accurate Financial Reports for submission to donors and other internal users; and supporting donor-specific audits, internal audits, and external audits as required.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a degree in Finance, Business Management, Accounting, or Administration. A minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role is required, particularly in leading end-to-end budget analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate should have an advanced level of English and an intermediate level of proficiency in the MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a high level of responsibility, confidentiality, leadership, and accountability, as well as the ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a degree in Finance, Business Management, Accounting, or Administration. This foundational knowledge is essential for understanding the complexities of financial analysis and budget management within the context of agricultural research and development.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in financial analysis, particularly in roles that involve budget management and reporting. Candidates should have a proven track record of leading budget analysis processes and providing insights that support strategic decision-making. Experience in a similar organizational context, such as a research institution or non-profit organization, is highly desirable.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, at an advanced level, as the role involves communication with various stakeholders, including donors and internal teams. While not mandatory, proficiency in Spanish would be considered an asset, given the organization's location and the potential need for communication with local partners and stakeholders.
