Job Overview:
The Online Volunteer position at UN-Habitat involves working closely with the Head of UN-Habitat Lao PDR and the project team to produce two InDesign-formatted reports for the Multilayered Vulnerability Assessment Report. The role requires each volunteer to take the lead on the layout and design of one full report, which is approximately 80 pages long. Volunteers will create a professional and visually coherent layout in Adobe InDesign, ensuring that the design adheres to UN-Habitat's corporate design guidelines. This position offers a unique opportunity to learn about the intersection of graphic design and urban vulnerability assessments while building connections with the UN-Habitat project team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the layout and design of one full report (approx. 80 pages) using Adobe InDesign.
  • Create a professional and visually coherent layout based on content provided by the project team.
  • Apply UN-Habitat corporate design guidelines to ensure consistency and branding.
  • Support the final formatting and preparation of print-ready and/or digital-ready files.
  • Cross-review the second report to ensure consistency in layout, formatting, and application of corporate branding guidelines.
  • Collaborate with the project team to understand the content and objectives of the reports.
  • Engage in discussions about how graphic design can enhance the presentation of urban vulnerability assessments.

Required Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in Adobe InDesign and graphic design principles.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain consistency in design.
  • Good communication skills to collaborate effectively with the project team.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with UN-Habitat's mission and objectives is a plus.

Educational Background:
A background in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have relevant coursework or experience that demonstrates their design skills and understanding of layout principles.

Experience:
Previous experience in graphic design, particularly with report layout and formatting, is highly desirable. Candidates should have a portfolio showcasing their design work, especially projects involving long-form documents or reports.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as all reports and communications will be conducted in English. Knowledge of additional languages, particularly those relevant to the region, would be considered an asset.
