The UNHCR representation office in Niger was established in 2012 in response to forced displacements caused by the rise in violent extremism in the West African Sahel region. The office has grown to include a Country Office in Niamey, Sub-Offices in Tahoua, Maradi, and Field Units in Diffa, Tillaberi, Agadez, and Madaoua. As of September 2025, UNHCR is protecting 938,429 forcibly displaced individuals, including 431,464 refugees and asylum seekers, 459,585 internally displaced persons (IDPs), and 47,380 others of concern. The organization operates in a challenging environment marked by violence from non-state armed groups and socio-economic vulnerabilities exacerbated by political instability and climate change. Job Overview:
The Associate Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer plays a crucial role in supporting resettlement and complementary pathways activities within their Area of Responsibility (AOR). This position involves identifying the needs of refugees, submitting cases for resettlement, and ensuring compliance with established procedures. The incumbent will conduct interviews, assess cases, and monitor the quality of submissions to ensure they meet UNHCR standards. Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties of the Associate Resettlement and Complementary Pathways Officer include identifying and interviewing refugees to assess their resettlement needs, processing cases according to established procedures, and providing counseling to individuals. The officer will monitor resettlement activities to ensure transparency and efficiency, review submissions for quality and consistency, and support the implementation of UNHCR's global policies. Responsibilities also include maintaining contact with resettlement countries, assisting in selection missions, analyzing political and social developments in the AOR, and contributing to the development of policies and guidelines. The officer will systematically apply an Age, Gender, and Diversity perspective in all processes and promote mechanisms to prevent fraud. Additional tasks may involve producing analytical reports, managing risks, and performing other related duties as required.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with an undergraduate degree, 2 years with a graduate degree, or 1 year with a doctorate. Essential qualifications include a strong understanding of refugee protection work, particularly in case management within an international context. Candidates should demonstrate experience in implementing UNHCR's policies and strategic priorities, as well as having diverse field experience. Functional skills required for the position include database management, knowledge of refugee resettlement programs, and mixed migratory movement management. The ability to work in a multicultural environment and a commitment to UNHCR's core values are also essential.

Educational Background:

Experience:
The position requires at least 4 years of professional work experience relevant to refugee protection, with a minimum of 1 year in an international capacity. Candidates should have demonstrated experience in casework or case management, preferably in a refugee or immigration context. Experience in resettlement management and team management is highly desirable, as is familiarity with UNHCR's policies and strategic priorities.

Languages:
Knowledge of English and the UN working language of the duty station (French) is mandatory. For national professional jobs, proficiency in the local language is also required. Candidates should have at least a B2 level of proficiency in the required languages, with good oral and written skills in both English and French being advantageous.

Additional Notes:
This position is classified as a Junior Professional Officer (JPO) role, with a maximum age limit of 32 years as of December 31 of the application year. Candidates who have previously completed a JPO assignment or are nationals of Niger are not eligible to apply. The position includes a Duty Travel and Training Allowance (DTTA) of $4,000 per year for learning activities related to the assignment and career development. The role is based in a non-family duty station, and living conditions may include challenges such as frequent power cuts and variable internet connectivity.
