Job Overview: The Social Policy Officer position at UNICEF is designed to provide technical support throughout the social policy program cycle, from planning to implementation. This role is crucial in strengthening public policies aimed at reducing child poverty, expanding effective social protection, and improving child-focused public investments. The officer will work closely with government and civil society partners, contributing to various sectors including education, health, child protection, WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene), and HIV programs. The position requires a strong focus on data analysis, policy advocacy, and capacity building to ensure that children's rights are prioritized in social policy frameworks.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Improve data on child poverty and vulnerability for policy action by supporting data collection, analysis, and presentation.
Strengthen social protection coverage and impact for children by developing policies and programs that increase coverage and effectiveness, particularly for marginalized groups.
Improve the use of public financial resources for children through budget analysis and advocacy for equitable allocations.
Enhance advocacy and partnerships for child-sensitive social policy by utilizing data and establishing effective collaborations with various stakeholders.
Manage and coordinate UNICEF's technical support around child poverty and social protection, ensuring timely implementation and risk management.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong understanding of social policy, child rights, and public finance. They should have experience in data analysis, policy development, and advocacy. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for building partnerships and collaborating with diverse stakeholders. The ability to work in complex environments and manage multiple priorities is also required.
Educational Background: A master's degree in social sciences, public policy, economics, or a related field is required. Candidates with relevant certifications in social protection or child rights will be preferred.
Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in social policy, child protection, or related fields is required. Experience working with government agencies, NGOs, or international organizations is highly desirable. Familiarity with UNICEF's mission and programs will be an advantage.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of local languages spoken in Nigeria is an asset and will enhance communication with local communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values.
