Job Overview:
The Climate and Health Knowledge Management Consultant will play a crucial role in supporting the Healthy Environments for Healthy Children (HEHC) programme, specifically focusing on the intersection of climate change and child health. This consultancy aims to enhance research, knowledge management, and technical assistance in this vital area. The consultant will be responsible for developing and updating technical content related to climate and child health, conducting global situation analyses, and creating various resources such as technical briefs, training packages, and advocacy messages. The consultant will also maintain the climate and child health components on the global collaborative portal and provide technical assistance to countries involved in the HEHC programme. This role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including UNICEF teams and external partners, to drive impactful change for children's environmental health.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The consultant's duties will include:
  • Developing and updating technical content on climate and child health, including conducting global situation analyses based on new research.
  • Creating and updating technical briefs, training packages, advocacy messages, human interest stories, investment proposals, videos, and e-learning modules.
  • Maintaining the climate and child health components on the global collaborative portal, which involves organizing technical webinars, drafting web pages, and maintaining a resource library.
  • Providing technical assistance to HEHC programme countries, including reviewing climate-health plans, contributing to country research, and participating in programme meetings.
  • Analyzing programme progress and writing reports to communicate findings and recommendations effectively.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible professional experience in public health and country-level programming. They should have technical expertise in climate adaptation and public health, along with proven experience in drafting programmes and strategies, conducting research, and engaging in policy advocacy. Strong organizational and planning skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, in English are required. Previous experience working with UNICEF or other UN agencies is considered an asset.

Educational Background:
An advanced university degree (Masters) in Public Health or a related field is required for this position. This educational background is crucial for understanding the complexities of public health issues, particularly in relation to climate change and its impact on children's health.

Experience:
The position requires a significant level of experience, specifically a minimum of eight years in public health and country-level programming. This experience should include technical expertise in climate adaptation and public health, as well as a track record of successfully drafting programmes and strategies, conducting research, and advocating for policy changes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as excellent communication skills are essential for effective collaboration and dissemination of information. While English is the primary language required, knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, particularly in regions where UNICEF operates.

  • The consultant will be required to submit a financial proposal that outlines costs per deliverable and total lump-sum for the assignment, including travel costs and daily subsistence allowances if applicable. UNICEF will cover any emergent or unforeseen duty travel expenses. Selected candidates must have valid health insurance coverage and will undergo rigorous background checks. The position does not confer staff member status under UN regulations, and consultants are responsible for their tax liabilities. Additionally, selected candidates must confirm their fully vaccinated status against COVID-19, although this requirement does not apply to those working remotely.
