Job Overview: The position of National Consultant to Develop a Gender Action Plan for the GEF GBF-EAS Project is critical in supporting the implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework. The consultant will be responsible for creating a comprehensive Gender Action Plan that aligns with the objectives of the Global Biodiversity Framework. This role requires a deep understanding of gender issues in biodiversity conservation and the ability to integrate gender considerations into national biodiversity strategies and action plans. The consultant will work closely with national teams to identify gaps and enhance readiness for implementing gender-responsive actions in biodiversity management. The assignment is expected to last for six weeks, from February 2026 to mid-May 2026, with a total of 23 working days dedicated to this task.
Duties and Responsibilities: The National Consultant will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including:
Conducting a thorough analysis of existing gender policies and frameworks related to biodiversity in Bahrain.
Engaging with stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community organizations, to gather insights and perspectives on gender issues in biodiversity.
Developing a Gender Action Plan that outlines specific actions, timelines, and responsibilities for integrating gender considerations into biodiversity strategies.
Facilitating workshops and consultations to validate the Gender Action Plan with stakeholders.
Providing technical support and guidance to national teams in implementing the Gender Action Plan.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of gender integration efforts in biodiversity initiatives.
Preparing and submitting progress reports to UNDP and relevant stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a strong background in gender studies, environmental science, or a related field. A proven track record of developing gender action plans or similar frameworks in the context of biodiversity or environmental projects is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate excellent analytical and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders. Familiarity with the Global Biodiversity Framework and its implications for gender equality is highly desirable. Candidates should also have experience working with international organizations or government agencies.
Educational Background: A minimum of a Master's degree in Gender Studies, Environmental Science, Social Sciences, or a related field is required. Additional certifications or training in gender analysis, biodiversity conservation, or project management will be considered an asset.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have at least 5 years of professional experience in gender analysis, biodiversity conservation, or related fields. Experience working with UN agencies or similar international organizations is preferred. Proven experience in developing and implementing gender action plans or strategies is crucial for this role.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, both written and spoken. Knowledge of Arabic is an advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of the consultant's work.
Additional Notes: This position is a short-term consultancy role with a contract duration of six weeks. The consultant is expected to work full-time during this period, dedicating 23 working days to the assignment. The role is open to both national and international candidates, and compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
