Job Overview: The position of IC-National Consultant is primarily focused on supporting communications, awareness raising, and media initiatives related to the National Adaptation Planning (NAP) process in Yemen. The consultant will be responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that effectively convey the objectives and importance of the NAP process to various stakeholders. This role requires a deep understanding of climate change adaptation issues and the ability to engage with diverse audiences, including government officials, civil society organizations, and the general public. The consultant will work closely with the UNDP team to ensure that communication efforts are aligned with the overall goals of the project and contribute to building capacity for national adaptation planning in Yemen. The position is home-based, allowing for flexibility in work arrangements, but it requires a commitment to deliver high-quality outputs within the specified timeframe.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will have a comprehensive set of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Developing a detailed communication strategy for the NAP process that outlines key messages, target audiences, and communication channels.
Creating engaging content for various platforms, including social media, newsletters, and reports, to raise awareness about climate change adaptation efforts in Yemen.
Organizing and facilitating workshops, webinars, and public events to promote stakeholder engagement and participation in the NAP process.
Collaborating with local media outlets to disseminate information and success stories related to the NAP initiatives.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of communication activities and making recommendations for improvements.
Providing technical support and guidance to UNDP staff and partners on communication best practices.
Ensuring that all communication materials are culturally sensitive and appropriate for the Yemeni context.
Reporting on progress and outcomes of communication efforts to UNDP management and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate for this position should possess a strong background in communications, public relations, or a related field. Required qualifications include:
Proven experience in developing and implementing communication strategies, particularly in the context of climate change or environmental issues.
Excellent writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce clear and compelling content for diverse audiences.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders.
Familiarity with the Yemeni context and understanding of local culture and communication norms.
Proficiency in using digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, to engage audiences effectively.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks within tight deadlines.
Educational Background: Candidates should have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, environmental science, or a related field. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may be considered an asset. Additional certifications in communication or project management would also be beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in communications, media relations, or public engagement, particularly in the context of climate change adaptation or sustainable development. Experience working with international organizations, government agencies, or NGOs in Yemen or similar contexts is highly desirable. The candidate should demonstrate a track record of successful communication initiatives and stakeholder engagement.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all communication materials and reports will be produced in English. Proficiency in Arabic is highly desirable, as it will facilitate engagement with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of communication efforts. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset, depending on the specific needs of the project.
Additional Notes: This position is offered as an Individual Contractor (IC) contract, with a duration of 120 working days spread over 12 months. The consultant will work remotely, allowing for flexibility in their schedule. The role is expected to be full-time, and the consultant will be required to submit proposals directly through the UNDP supplier portal. Compensation will be based on the consultant's qualifications and experience, and specific details regarding payment terms will be outlined in the contract.
