Job Overview:
The Protection Manager is responsible for overseeing the implementation, quality, and coordination of protection activities in the Kordofans State of Sudan. This role involves direct management of protection field teams and reporting to the Area Manager. The Protection Manager will ensure that protection activities, including protection monitoring, individual protection assistance (IPA), human rights and GBV case management, legal aid, psychosocial-support" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">psychosocial support (PSS), and cash for protection, are effectively carried out. The position requires a strong focus on developing safe referral pathways and service mapping, as well as providing technical supervision to the protection staff. The Protection Manager will also play a key role in capacity building and training of the protection team, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver quality results in their work.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Protection Manager will oversee the implementation of all protection programming, ensuring quality and budget management across all field sites. This includes conducting regular on-site visits to monitor activity implementation, providing technical advice to field project staff, and ensuring the relevance of beneficiary selection criteria. The role also involves supporting DRC offices in strengthening information management systems, developing protocols and guidelines for protection activities, and participating in the recruitment and onboarding of new staff. Additionally, the Protection Manager will be responsible for monitoring protection risks and needs, collaborating with the MEAL team, and ensuring compliance with accountability standards. The position requires active participation in coordination with local and international actors, as well as staying informed about developments in the protection environment in Sudan.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a university degree or higher education in law, social sciences, or a related field, or have equivalent work experience. A minimum of four years of proven national or international experience in field-based protection is required. Applicants should have a detailed understanding of humanitarian and protection principles, as well as knowledge of protection standards and guidelines. Strong verbal and written communication skills, organizational abilities, and the capacity to represent the organization effectively are essential. Experience in project cycle management and the ability to work in a dynamic environment are also necessary qualifications for this role.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for the Protection Manager position includes a university degree or higher education in relevant fields such as law, social sciences, or a related discipline. Candidates with equivalent work experience may also be considered. The role demands a solid understanding of protection principles and practices, which can be supported by formal education or extensive field experience.

Experience:
The position requires at least four years of relevant experience in protection work, preferably in a field-based setting. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing protection programs and working with vulnerable populations. Experience in humanitarian settings, particularly in conflict-affected areas, is highly desirable. The ability to provide technical guidance and training to staff is also an important aspect of the required experience.

Languages:
Fluency in written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. Additionally, fluency in written and spoken Arabic is considered an added advantage, as it will facilitate communication with local communities and stakeholders.

Additional Notes:
The contract for this position is for nine months, with the possibility of extension based on funding and performance. The salary and conditions will be in accordance with the Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for International staff or under the terms of employment for National Staff in Sudan. This position is graded at M.F. The expected start date for the role is March 2026, and the duty station will be El-Obeid.
