Job Overview:
The position of Collaborator for the Listing Exercise is crucial for the successful implementation of a project aimed at enhancing the resilience, productivity, and food security of smallholder farmers in the Amhara region of Ethiopia. The collaborator will be responsible for conducting an in-person listing exercise between March and April 2026, which involves obtaining lists of kebeles and villages, selecting study participants, and ensuring ethical compliance throughout the process. Duties and Responsibilities:
The Collaborator will undertake a series of specific activities, including:
  • In each of the eight selected study woredas in South Wollo and North Shewa zones, obtain lists of kebeles from woreda-level leadership and collaborate with IFPRI staff to randomly select 24 kebeles for the study.
  • Engage with kebele-level leadership to obtain a list of villages within each selected kebele and randomly select one village to participate in the study.
  • In each selected village, work with local leadership to obtain existing lists of farmers and update these lists with demographic information and current crop cultivation practices.
  • Conduct a public lottery in collaboration with local leadership to randomly select study farmers from the updated list, ensuring transparency and community involvement.
  • Contact selected farmers to explain the study, obtain informed consent, and distribute vegetable kits provided by IFPRI.
  • Maintain accurate digital and hard-copy records of kebele, village, and farmer lists, as well as consent forms and distribution of vegetable kits.
  • Recruit and manage a fieldwork team, providing necessary training and resources for effective data collection.
  • Implement quality control measures to ensure data accuracy and provide weekly reports to IFPRI.
  • Deliver organized data to IFPRI and prepare a technical note detailing the implementation process and any challenges faced during the fieldwork.

Required Qualifications:
The ideal collaborator must demonstrate a strong track record in implementing large-scale household surveys, having successfully conducted at least three surveys with sample sizes comparable to this project (2,000 households). Team leaders should possess experience in survey studies within Ethiopia and include technicians proficient in survey programming software.
