Job Overview: The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator position is integral to the DRC Syria Country Office, aimed at enhancing DRC's credibility as a humanitarian and development actor with expertise in displacement issues. The role involves identifying strategic advocacy and communications opportunities, developing clear and evidence-based messaging, and guiding DRC's strategic positioning in Syria. The Coordinator will contribute to policy analysis and coordinate advocacy and communications initiatives, working closely with program teams to ensure coherence between advocacy priorities and field-level evidence. The position is supervised by the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Country Director and requires collaboration with DRC's hub and global teams to align strategies at national, regional, and global levels. The Coordinator will also engage with relevant partners and working groups to support common advocacy priorities and collective messaging, ensuring that DRC's advocacy efforts are informed by program evidence and contextual analysis.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Advocacy and Communications Coordinator will lead the development and implementation of DRC's country-level advocacy strategy, identifying key priorities based on program evidence and strategic context analysis. Responsibilities include ensuring advocacy coherence between programs and advocacy efforts, providing timely analysis of humanitarian trends, preparing evidence-based advocacy products, and representing DRC in relevant working groups. The Coordinator will work with the Protection team to develop protection analysis, leverage monitoring and evaluation data for advocacy strategies, and support DRC's global advocacy initiatives. Additionally, the role involves organizing advocacy events, monitoring the impact of advocacy initiatives, and enhancing DRC staff's understanding of advocacy and communications through training and tool development. The Coordinator will also manage the Communications Officer, oversee media engagement, and collaborate with partners to align advocacy strategies.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 years of experience in policy and advocacy work related to complex humanitarian crises or post-conflict situations. A strong understanding of the political and humanitarian context in Syria and the region is essential, along with professional knowledge of protection principles, durable solutions, and advocacy. The ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative data, understanding of the UN and international stakeholders' landscape, and documented results in advocacy-related responsibilities are required. Strong negotiation and influencing skills in coordination with UN, INGO, and donor forums are also necessary. Candidates should demonstrate a passion for advocacy, attention to detail, high-level analytical skills, cultural awareness, and effective communication abilities.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in human rights, development studies, social sciences, media, or a related discipline is required. An advanced degree, such as a master's, or a combination of relevant disciplines is advantageous for candidates seeking this position.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in crafting and delivering policy and advocacy work in response to complex humanitarian crises or post-conflict situations. Candidates should have a strong understanding of the political and humanitarian context in Syria and the surrounding region, as well as documented results related to the responsibilities of the position, particularly in analysis and drafting of advocacy messages.
Languages: Proficiency in English and Arabic, both spoken and written, is mandatory for this position. Candidates should be able to communicate effectively in both languages to fulfill the role's requirements.
