Job Posting Organization: The Climate and Clean Air Coalition (CCAC) is a partnership that includes governments, intergovernmental organizations, private sector representatives, and members of civil society. Established to tackle climate change and air pollution, the CCAC is the only international initiative focused on integrated climate and clean air solutions aimed at reducing emissions of short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as methane, black carbon, HFCs, and tropospheric ozone. The CCAC operates globally, providing secretariat services to initiatives like the Global Methane Pledge, and is hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) at the Industry & Economy Division in Paris. The coalition launched the “Clean Air Flagship” for 2024-2026 to mobilize efforts towards cleaner air, aiming to save lives, slow climate change, and maximize co-benefits for agricultural productivity and economic development. The CCAC also promotes capacity strengthening at all governance levels to advance integrated air quality and climate planning, including the development of an online platform for air quality management, the Air Quality Management Exchange Platform (AQMx).
Job Overview: The CCAC AQMx Air Quality Monitoring Expert will be responsible for developing two comprehensive Guidance packages (Stages 4 and 5) that will each consist of approximately 5,000 words. These packages will build upon the existing Air Quality Monitoring Guidance from Stages 1, 2, and 3, providing clear, actionable steps for air quality managers as they transition from Stage 3 to Stage 4 and from Stage 4 to Stage
The expert will also identify a minimum of 30 supporting resources, including tools, models, databases, reports, and articles, to complement each step of the guidance. The aim is to ensure that the guidance is accessible and practical for air quality managers, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and to facilitate their capacity building in air quality management. The guidance will be launched on International Clean Air Day 2026, and the expert will conduct consultations with the AQMx Technical Advisory Group and other stakeholders to ensure the recommendations are reflective of the latest research and address the needs of air quality managers worldwide.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop Stages 4 and 5 of the Air Quality Monitoring Guidance, ensuring it builds upon the previous stages and provides a structured framework for air quality managers.
Break down the guidance into concrete, actionable steps for air quality managers to follow as they progress through the stages.
Identify and compile a minimum of 30 supporting resources that will enhance the guidance provided in Stages 4 and
Ensure that the guidance maintains cross-linkages and consistency with other areas of Air Quality Management Guidance.
Conduct consultations with the AQMx Technical Advisory Group and relevant partners to gather insights and ensure the guidance reflects current research and best practices.
Prepare a PowerPoint presentation summarizing key messages to support the launch of the guidance on International Clean Air Day 202
Submit the final guidance documents and presentation in the required formats by the specified deadlines.
Required Qualifications:
A Master's-level university degree in a relevant field such as environmental management, technology, science, economics, public policy, or law.
A minimum of 4 years of professional or scientific experience related to air quality monitoring, as evidenced in the CV.
Proven experience in preparing reports that demonstrate expertise in air quality monitoring, including at least one authored or co-authored report from the last 3 years.
Experience in preparing and delivering presentations effectively.
Demonstrated expertise in air quality monitoring practices and principles.
Experience conducting research in developing countries and an understanding of diverse country contexts.
Ability to produce clear, concise, and accessible scientific and technical reports suitable for policymakers.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Master's-level university degree in a field directly relevant to the guidance being developed. This includes disciplines such as environmental management, technology, science, economics, public policy, public administration, or law. The educational background should provide a solid foundation for understanding the complexities of air quality management and the associated scientific and technical aspects.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 4 years of professional and/or scientific experience specifically related to air quality monitoring. This experience should be well-documented in the applicant's CV, showcasing a strong background in the field. Candidates should also have demonstrated experience in preparing reports that reflect their expertise in air quality monitoring, including at least one relevant report authored or co-authored in the last three years. Additionally, experience in delivering presentations is essential, as the role involves communicating complex information effectively to various stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English, both written and oral, is mandatory for this position. Candidates with additional knowledge of other UN official languages will be considered an asset, enhancing their ability to communicate with a broader audience and collaborate with international partners.
