Job Overview: The Communication Specialist will play a crucial role in developing and implementing communication strategies that highlight the work and impact of UNDP WACA and UNDP Senegal. This position involves creating various communication materials, including social media assets, reports, brochures, and advocacy products aimed at external audiences. The specialist will be responsible for leading the development of communication products that effectively convey key messages and data, as well as curating content for digital platforms. The role requires a strong understanding of communication for development and the ability to work collaboratively with diverse partners to promote UNDP's initiatives and influence the development agenda in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Communication Specialist will be tasked with a variety of responsibilities, including:
Developing social media assets such as quote cards, event posters, and fact cards.
Designing communication materials and knowledge products, including reports, brochures, and fact sheets.
Creating branding materials for key activities, such as rollup banners and promotional items.
Incorporating key results and success stories into communications and outreach efforts.
Leading the development of communication products that illustrate UNDP WACA and UNDP Senegal’s work and impact.
Preparing advocacy products targeting external audiences and the media.
Developing ideas for infographics and visual content that creatively convey key messages.
Creating scripts and storyboards for audio-visual and digital content.
Curating and presenting stories, images, and videos for UNDP’s digital platforms. 1
Supporting country and regional activities that promote UNDP as a development partner and influence the development agenda.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, strong graphic design capabilities, and interpersonal skills that allow for effective collaboration with a range of partners. Familiarity with communications for development tools and approaches is essential. The ability to adapt professionally in challenging environments and work effectively in multicultural teams is also required. Proficiency in various Adobe applications (Premiere Pro, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office applications is necessary, along with solid overall computer literacy. Self-motivation and the ability to work with minimal supervision and tight deadlines are crucial, as is an affinity for promoting sustainable development and volunteerism.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in communications, graphic design, international development, or a related field. Advanced degrees may be preferred, depending on the specific requirements of the position.
Experience: Candidates should have a proven track record of experience in communications, particularly in the context of international development or non-profit organizations. Experience in graphic design and the production of communication materials is essential, along with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, and proficiency in French is highly desirable given the context of the position in Senegal. Knowledge of additional languages may be considered an asset.
