Job Overview: The Deputy WASHCoordinator (DWC) plays a crucial role in supporting the WASH Coordinator in implementing the WASH strategy. This position involves researching and exploring innovative solutions and products to enhance the effectiveness of WASH interventions. The DWC will also be responsible for designing and leading the Water Resource Management (WRM) component of the mission, as well as providing significant support for the development of the Agro-ecology portfolio in collaboration with the security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) team. The DWC is expected to ensure that day-to-day technical support is efficiently provided to the bases, and to engage in quality research and product development that will have a lasting impact on the communities served. The role also involves leading innovation in WRM and Agro-ecology, and providing strong technical support to the WASH Coordinator and the bases.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Deputy WASH Coordinator will have a variety of responsibilities, including but not limited to:
Supporting the WASH Coordinator in the implementation of the WASH strategy and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Conducting research to identify new products and solutions that can enhance WASH interventions.
Designing and leading the WRM component of the mission, ensuring that it is effectively integrated into overall WASH programming.
Collaborating with the FSL team to develop the Agro-ecology portfolio, ensuring that it meets the needs of the communities served.
Providing technical support to field bases, ensuring that WASH activities are implemented efficiently and effectively.
Leading the design of WRM projects and ensuring that they are innovative and impactful.
Engaging in ongoing quality research and product development to improve WASH services.
Monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of WASH interventions and making recommendations for improvement.
Required Qualifications: Candidates for the Deputy WASH Coordinator position should possess a strong background in WASH programming, with a focus on water resource management and agro-ecology. They should have experience in humanitarian settings, particularly in conflict-affected areas. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills are essential, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to the mission and values of SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL, including respect for cultural norms and a dedication to improving the lives of vulnerable populations.
Educational Background: A relevant educational background is required for this position, typically including a degree in environmental science, water resource management, public health, or a related field. Advanced degrees or specialized training in WASH programming or humanitarian response may be advantageous.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 3-5 years of experience in WASH programming, particularly in emergency or humanitarian contexts. Experience in project management, technical support, and team leadership is highly desirable. Familiarity with the specific challenges and needs of populations affected by conflict and natural disasters is also important.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory for this position, as it is the primary language of communication within the organization and with international stakeholders. Knowledge of Arabic or French would be considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local communities and partners.
