Job Overview: The position involves providing technical support for the Advancing Meteorological Observations System for Resilient Development (AMOS-RD) project, which aims to enhance the capabilities of the Solomon Island Meteorological Service (SIMS). This initiative is funded by the Systematic Observation Financing Facility (SOFF) and focuses on improving weather and climate prediction products through better data collection and dissemination. The role requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including government departments, to ensure the successful implementation of the project, which includes expanding the national meteorological observation network and upgrading existing facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that construction works meet quality standards and comply with industry regulations, while also managing risks and maintaining effective communication among project participants.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties of this position include providing technical support during the tender process for selecting a general contractor for civil works, which involves attending pre-bid meetings and evaluating technical bids. The candidate will also support the execution of the project's quality assurance/control (QA/QC) plan, ensuring compliance with prescribed procedures and industry standards. Regular site inspections will be conducted to monitor construction progress and adherence to safety regulations, with monthly progress reports submitted to the AMOS-RD management. The role also entails identifying and managing non-conformances, issuing reports for deviations from project specifications, and tracking resolutions. The candidate will coordinate quality-related communications among project stakeholders and maintain comprehensive records of QA/QC activities. Additionally, the role may involve verifying completed works for acceptance and participating in final inspections to ensure all contractual and quality standards are met.
