Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting UNEP's internal communications strategies, which aim to engage over 3,000 personnel in Nairobi and across various global locations. The incumbent will be responsible for managing both virtual and in-person events, including the monthly Global Townhall chaired by the director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Executive Director. They will coordinate dialogues that align with UNEP's core pillars of climate, nature, and pollution, as well as organize commemorative activities for significant UN International Days. The role involves developing promotional materials, managing event budgets, and providing moderation support when necessary. The volunteer will also collaborate with colleagues to organize webinars, trainings, and meetings, while producing content for internal communication platforms such as newsletters and the UNEP intranet.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks under the supervision of the Chief of Digital Strategy, including: planning and implementing content and activities in line with the internal communication strategy; coordinating with UNEP offices and divisions; monitoring and revising the internal communication strategy; supporting the planning and execution of communications-related events; acting as a communication officer; coordinating communication activities between UNEP and other UN organizations; supporting newsletter work focused on staff and key events; and performing other relevant duties as assigned. Additionally, the volunteer is expected to strengthen their understanding of volunteerism, participate in UNV activities, contribute articles for publications, assist with the UNV Buddy Programme, and promote online volunteering.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates should possess strong communication skills, adaptability, and a commitment to the values of the United Nations. They should demonstrate creativity, planning and organizing abilities, professionalism, and respect for diversity. A solid understanding of technological tools and platforms is also essential for this role.

Educational Background:
A relevant degree in communications, public relations, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have a strong academic background that supports their ability to perform the duties outlined in the job description.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in communications, event management, or related fields. Experience working in an international organization or a non-profit environment is highly desirable. Familiarity with the UN system and its operations will be an advantage.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory. Knowledge of additional UN languages, such as French or Spanish, would be considered an asset and is highly desirable for effective communication within the organization.

Additional Notes:
The contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The UN Volunteer will receive a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) to cover basic needs, calculated based on the Post-Adjustment Multiplier (PAM).
