Job Overview:
The Associate director" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Technical Director for Global Health security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security (GHS) within the STRengthening Infectious Disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) project will play a pivotal role in providing strategic and technical leadership for the design, implementation, and monitoring of STRIDES activities in Jordan. This position is crucial for delivering high-level technical support to national and sub-national government ministries, aimed at building and sustaining core GHS capacities in alignment with international frameworks and standards. The Associate Technical Director will oversee teams responsible for strategy development and implementation across key technical areas, including laboratory and diagnostics strengthening, antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and control, and epidemiology and surveillance. Collaboration with the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) team is essential to support the monitoring, evaluation, and reporting of technical achievements, ensuring that all technical deliverables outlined in the Jordan work plan are completed on time and within budget.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the Associate Technical Director include serving as the technical lead for STRIDES Jordan and acting as the key point of contact for relevant topics at the country level. The individual will provide technical direction to develop and lead the implementation of the STRIDES Jordan workplan, ensuring alignment with STRIDES objectives, US Government priorities, and global technical standards. Responsibilities also include ensuring the timely development and submission of high-quality technical deliverables, such as workplans and reports, while maintaining compliance with STRIDES contracts and relevant regulations. The Associate Technical Director will develop and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders, lead operational and tactical technical management activities, and manage a team overseeing specific technical areas of the workplan. Additionally, the role involves ensuring that technical activities support STRIDES monitoring and evaluation efforts, representing STRIDES at global health security-focused events, and supporting the performance management and professional development of direct reports.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess comprehensive knowledge of Global Health Security (GHS) concepts and subject matter expertise in one or more GHS domains, such as laboratory, antimicrobial resistance, infection prevention and control, or surveillance epidemiology. Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational and analytical skills, and demonstrated project and technical leadership are essential. The ability to motivate and influence others to achieve organizational goals is crucial, along with the capacity to communicate clearly and positively with clients and team members. Fluency in both English and Arabic is mandatory.

Educational Background:
A Master’s degree in public health, infectious diseases, laboratory sciences, or an equivalent international qualification in diagnostics, epidemiology, or other GHS domains is required. A Project Management (PM) Certification is preferred, indicating a strong foundation in managing complex projects effectively.

Experience:
The position requires a minimum of 12 years of experience in public health, infectious diseases, and/or global health security. Candidates should have extensive technical and project management experience in relevant specialized areas, including significant leadership and line-management responsibilities. Experience working within non-governmental organizations (NGOs) is preferred, as is prior experience implementing U.S. Government-funded contracts. Demonstrated experience working with the health system in Jordan is also essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English and Arabic is mandatory for this position, as effective communication in both languages is crucial for collaboration with stakeholders and team members. Additional language skills may be considered an asset but are not required.

Additional Notes:
This position may involve domestic travel between 10% to 50% of the time. The job is based in a typical office environment, requiring the ability to spend long hours looking at a computer screen and performing repetitive tasks.
