Job Overview: The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting the implementation of UNICEF's WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) interventions in Eastern Province, Zambia. This position involves engaging with communities, partners, and stakeholders to promote volunteerism and enhance awareness of WASH issues. The volunteer will assist in planning, monitoring, and reviewing WASH programs, ensuring they are equitable, inclusive, and climate-resilient. The role also includes advocating for children's and youth's involvement in WASH-related actions, particularly concerning climate change and environmental sustainability. The volunteer will work closely with various UNICEF sections and external partners to ensure the effective delivery of WASH services and support the establishment of partnerships for sustainable interventions.
Duties and Responsibilities: The UN Volunteer will undertake a variety of tasks, including supporting assessments and planning for WASH programs, engaging children and youth in advocacy efforts, and mainstreaming UNICEF principles across all activities. Responsibilities also include identifying key stakeholders, promoting government leadership in WASH interventions, facilitating collaboration among partners, and providing technical support in areas such as hygiene behavior change and disaster risk reduction. Experience: The position requires prior experience in community engagement, program implementation, or advocacy, particularly in the WASH sector. Experience working with children and youth, as well as familiarity with government and non-governmental organizations, is highly desirable. The volunteer should be adaptable and willing to learn from the local context.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the primary language of communication in Zambia. Knowledge of local languages would be an asset, as it can enhance engagement with communities and stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This is a volunteer position under the UNV program, and the duration of the assignment is 36 months. The role is full-time and requires a commitment to promoting volunteerism and engaging with local communities. The living conditions in Lusaka are generally favorable, with access to basic amenities, although some adjustments may be necessary for newcomers. The position may involve occasional travel to other provinces within Zambia as part of the WASH program implementation.
