Job Overview: The Manager position within the Investigations Unit (INV) of the World Bank Group’s Ethics and Internal Justice Services Vice Presidency (EIJ) is a critical role that involves overseeing investigations into allegations of staff misconduct. The selected candidate will report directly to the Director of the Mediation & Formal Services Department (MFR) and will be responsible for managing INV’s portfolio of work. This includes providing strategic guidance and leadership to staff, ensuring that investigations are conducted with the highest standards of quality, thoroughness, and urgency. The role requires the ability to foster a positive and respectful work environment, motivating team members to be proactive and innovative in their approach to problem-solving. The Manager will also be tasked with developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships with key institutional stakeholders and leading initiatives aimed at improving the WBG’s investigative mechanisms.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Manager will be responsible for a comprehensive set of duties, including: managing the portfolio of investigations within INV, providing leadership and strategic oversight to the investigative team; ensuring robust quality assurance processes are in place for all investigations; applying the highest standards of quality and accuracy in investigations; preparing and delivering high-quality reports and briefing materials for EIJ leadership; sharing best practices and lessons learned from investigations to support risk management; implementing process improvements based on emerging jurisprudence; contributing to the continuous improvement of investigative mechanisms; managing the budget and resources allocated to INV; and collaborating with other units within EIJ on special initiatives and projects.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a background in law, criminal justice, or a related field, with a Master’s degree in law being ideal. A minimum of 12 years of experience in conducting investigations or serving in a similar capacity within an international public organization or private multinational corporation is required. The candidate should have a proven track record of building and managing multi-disciplinary teams, demonstrating high levels of integrity and sound judgment in sensitive situations. Strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and the ability to lead teams collaboratively across departments are essential. The candidate should also exhibit creative and strategic thinking, strong negotiation skills, and effective communication abilities, both orally and in writing.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree, preferably in law, which equips the candidate with the necessary knowledge and skills to navigate complex legal and ethical issues. A strong academic foundation in relevant fields such as criminal justice or organizational ethics is also beneficial.
Experience: The position requires a substantial level of experience, specifically a minimum of 12 years in roles that involve conducting investigations or similar responsibilities. This experience should ideally be within international organizations or large multinational corporations, providing the candidate with a comprehensive understanding of the complexities involved in workplace investigations and conflict resolution.
Languages: The mandatory language for this position is English, which is essential for effective communication within the organization and with external stakeholders.
