Duties and Responsibilities:
Analyze laundry wastewater to identify chemical constituents and their effects on water quality and health.
Map the movement of laundry wastewater through drainage systems and identify pollution hotspots.
Conduct interviews with ADB staff and local water utilities to understand current management practices and challenges.
Review ADB project documents to identify opportunities for integrating laundry-related solutions.
Draft a memo summarizing the connection between laundry practices and water systems, outlining challenges and potential solutions.
Identify and design pilot initiatives in the Philippines, Pakistan, or Bangladesh.
Prepare a policy brief with recommendations for ADB operations, focusing on regulatory gaps, infrastructure needs, and consumer behavior changes.
Specialization in wastewater management, WASH, or circular economy is preferred.
Familiarity with water systems, wastewater treatment, and pollution control is essential.
Strong analytical and research skills, with the ability to synthesize technical and policy information.
Experience in stakeholder engagement and conducting interviews with utilities and regulators.
Excellent writing skills for technical memos and policy briefs.
Knowledge of circular economy concepts is an advantage.
Regional familiarity with South and Southeast Asia urban water challenges is desirable.
Educational Background: Candidates must be currently enrolled in a master's degree program or PhD in Environmental Sciences, Water Resources Management, or related fields. A specialization in wastewater management, WASH, or circular economy is preferred, indicating a strong academic foundation relevant to the internship's focus.
Experience: The position requires preferably 2-3 years of relevant professional experience. Candidates should have familiarity with water systems, wastewater treatment, and pollution control, as well as an understanding of WASH principles and SDG 6 targets. Strong analytical and research skills are necessary, along with experience in stakeholder engagement and interviews.
Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English are mandatory for this position.
