Job Overview: The Finance Controller role at Viya Health is a strategic and hands-on position responsible for overseeing all financial control and accounting activities for the West Africa operations. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure the integrity of financial reporting, strengthen internal controls, manage cash flow, and provide critical insights to drive business decisions in a complex and evolving regional environment. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with experience in the financial and operational landscape, capable of navigating the challenges and opportunities that arise in this dynamic sector. This role requires a proactive approach to financial management, with a focus on aligning financial strategies with the overall business objectives of Viya Health.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Finance Controller will be responsible for a variety of key tasks, including but not limited to:
Financial Reporting and Financial Controls: Leading the month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timelines are met; ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and regulatory reporting; overseeing all accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, payroll, tax-related filings, and inventory accounting; maintaining and strengthening internal controls over financial reporting; assisting in the preparation of senior management reports; coordinating and overseeing annual audits.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis: Leading the annual budgeting and rolling forecast processes; developing and maintaining detailed financial models to support planning decisions; analyzing budget-to-actual variances and providing recommendations.
Strategic and Operational Support: Partnering with operational leads to evaluate new projects, investments, and market entry opportunities; serving as a financial business partner to market leads and operational managers; supporting commercial decision-making, business case evaluation, and financial impact of business contracts; driving cost optimization and operational efficiency initiatives; supporting inventory management and control processes.
Month-end and Year-end Process Management: Processing all journals on the accounting system (QuickBooks Online); managing and coordinating the month-end closing process for reporting to headquarters; preparing month-end reconciliations for reporting to headquarters; preparing monthly profit and loss statements for review by the Head of Finance; assisting in the preparation and review of statutory financial requirements; assisting with the transfer pricing audit to provide accurate reports and information to ensure the transfer pricing report is correct and that tax submissions can be completed. Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A professional financial accreditation is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a financial control or similar role. Exposure to QuickBooks Online (QBO) is considered an advantage. Proven work experience in West Africa is essential, along with a deep understanding of the financial frameworks and regulatory environment in Nigeria and ideally the broader region. Experience in a commercial business setting is also required.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. A professional financial accreditation, such as CPA or ACCA, is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for this role.
Experience: The ideal candidate should have a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years specifically in a financial control or similar role. This experience should include a strong background in financial reporting, budgeting, and strategic financial management, particularly within the context of West Africa.
