Job Overview: The Principal Banker role is situated within the Financial Institutions Middle East and Africa (MEA) team, primarily focusing on operations in Nigeria while also engaging with the wider region. The role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including project development, structuring, execution, and monitoring of investment instruments offered by the Bank. The Principal Banker is expected to lead project teams, supervise junior staff, and contribute to business development and client management. Duties and Responsibilities:
Structuring and Execution: The Principal Banker will work as a senior project team member, contributing to complex transactions and supporting the Operation Leader in managing the project team. Responsibilities include leading negotiations, managing resources, overseeing due diligence processes, and ensuring compliance with the Bank's standards.
Portfolio Monitoring, Value Creation and Reporting: The Principal Banker will monitor projects, provide guidance to junior team members, and ensure high-quality reporting and compliance with donor requirements.
Policy Dialogue: The role involves contributing to policy dialogue initiatives, supporting efforts to procure grants and technical cooperation funds.
Business Development: The Principal Banker will assist in marketing efforts, develop market contacts, and screen project proposals to identify viable investments.
Staff Management: Responsibilities include recruiting, training, and mentoring junior bankers, ensuring quality project work, and fostering professional development within the team.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s degree, with a Master’s degree preferred or equivalent experience in relevant fields. Professional qualifications such as ACA, CFA, ACCA, or CIMA are desirable. Strong quantitative skills, credit analysis capabilities, and proficiency in financial modeling are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate excellent stakeholder management, coaching, and leadership skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Proficiency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of the local language is advantageous.
