Job Overview:
The Principal, Policy position is a critical role within the EBRD, focusing on the Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA) region. The individual in this role will collaborate closely with the Regional Policy Lead (RPL) and various sectoral pillars to advance the Bank's transition mandate. This includes working on priority policy and thematic areas such as green transition, economic governance, human capital, and digitalisation. The Principal is expected to contribute to a coherent policy agenda and engage in various projects that support the Bank's objectives. The role requires flexibility to work across different areas of focus and to contribute to the development of sector-specific reform agendas. The Principal will also be responsible for drafting key Bank products, preparing country diagnostics, and engaging with stakeholders at various levels to promote the Bank's transition objectives.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Principal, Policy will have a wide range of responsibilities, including but not limited to: supporting the development of sector-specific reform agendas in areas such as green transition and economic governance; contributing to assessments of structural reform progress and economic performance in SSA countries; drafting key Bank products like the Regional Economic Prospects and Transition Report; preparing country diagnostics and strategies; assisting the RPL in preparing policy compacts; managing complex projects and transactions; providing strategic insights on sectors for enhancing impact; engaging with internal and external counterparts, including senior government officials; and representing the Bank in external forums. The role demands a proactive approach to identifying opportunities for policy initiatives and delivering on the Bank's objectives in the region.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a postgraduate degree (master’s or PhD) in economics, finance, public or business administration, or a closely related field. They should have relevant work experience in financial institutions, government agencies, multilateral organizations, consultancy firms, or think tanks. A solid understanding of development, governance, and institutional frameworks in the SSA region is essential. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate strong networking capabilities and a commitment to the Bank's transition agenda, as well as the ability to communicate complex policy issues effectively to a diverse audience.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a postgraduate degree, either a master's or a PhD, in a relevant field such as economics, finance, public administration, or business administration. This advanced education is crucial for understanding the complexities of the economic and policy landscape in the SSA region and for contributing effectively to the Bank's objectives.

Experience:
The position requires significant relevant work experience, ideally gained through roles in financial institutions, government agencies, multilateral organizations, consultancy firms, or think tanks. Candidates should have experience in managing projects and leading multi-disciplinary teams, as well as familiarity with finance and investment decision-making processes. A proven track record of working across priority policy areas such as green transition, human capital, and economic governance is highly desirable.

Languages:
Excellent written and spoken English is mandatory for this position. The ability to communicate effectively in both English and other languages is considered an asset, particularly for representing the Bank in various forums and engaging with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds.
