Job Overview: The Assistant Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Officer plays a crucial role in operationalizing the strategic vision of UNHCR to align livelihoods and economic inclusion efforts with the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR). This position is essential for mobilizing additional actors and adopting a whole-of-society approach to strengthen refugee self-reliance and alleviate pressure on host countries. The officer will work to promote the economic inclusion of refugees, which is a key development area that contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda's Sustainable Development Goals. The role involves translating the objectives of the GCR into impactful results for persons of concern (PoC) by improving the enabling environment for refugees to work, seeking and strengthening partnerships, and enhancing ongoing livelihoods programming through evidence-based and market-driven approaches. The officer will collaborate with various stakeholders, including government institutions, development actors, and the private sector, to advance economic inclusion initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Assistant Livelihood and Economic Inclusion Officer include exploring partnerships to facilitate the economic inclusion of refugees, advocating for the inclusion of UNHCR PoC in support services, and working with multi-functional teams to assess the legal framework for the right to work. The officer will support the implementation of socioeconomic surveys, conduct assessments to identify investment opportunities, and provide technical assistance on livelihoods interventions. Additionally, the officer will manage risks, seize opportunities impacting objectives, and perform other related duties as required. The role requires proactive engagement with stakeholders to mobilize resources and support fundraising initiatives, ensuring that the economic inclusion of refugees is prioritized in programming.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a relevant undergraduate degree or a graduate degree with no experience, or a doctorate degree with no experience. Essential qualifications include experience in facilitating the economic inclusion of vulnerable groups, working in partnership with various stakeholders, and knowledge of the latest developments in the livelihoods sector. The officer should demonstrate excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant digital tools for program management. Experience in humanitarian or displacement settings is an advantage, and candidates should be proactive and results-oriented.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a degree in fields such as Business Management, Socio-Economic Development, Economics, International Economics, Rural Development, or Financial Management. A strong academic foundation in these areas is essential to effectively contribute to the organization's mission and objectives.
Experience: The position requires at least one year of relevant experience for candidates with an undergraduate degree, or no experience for those with a graduate or doctorate degree.
