Job Overview: The Finance Controller position at Viya Health is a strategic and hands-on role that oversees all financial control and accounting activities for the West Africa operations. This role is crucial for ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, managing cash flow, and providing critical insights to drive business decisions in a complex and evolving regional environment. The ideal candidate will be a pragmatic business partner with a strong background in both financial and operational landscapes, capable of navigating the challenges and opportunities presented in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting and Financial Controls: Lead the month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timelines are met. Ensure compliance with statutory requirements and regulatory reporting. Oversee all accounting operations including accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), general ledger (GL), payroll, tax-related filings, and inventory accounting. Maintain and strengthen internal controls over financial reporting. Assist in the preparation of senior management reports and coordinate the oversight of annual audits.
Budgeting, Forecasting and Analysis: Lead the annual budgeting and rolling forecast processes. Develop and maintain detailed financial models to support planning decisions. Analyze budget-to-actual variances and provide actionable recommendations.
Strategic and Operational Support: Partner with operational leads to evaluate new projects, investments, and market entry opportunities. Serve as a financial business partner to market leads and operational managers, supporting commercial decision-making, business case evaluations, and assessing the financial impact of business contracts. Drive cost optimization and operational efficiency initiatives while supporting inventory management and control processes.
Month-end and Year-end Process Management: Process all journals on the accounting system (QuickBooks Online). Manage and coordinate the month-end closing process for reporting to headquarters. Prepare month-end reconciliations for reporting to headquarters and assist in the preparation and review of statutory financial requirements. Assist with the transfer pricing audit to provide accurate reports and information to ensure the transfer pricing report is correct and that tax submissions can be completed. Required Qualifications: The position requires a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, with a preference for candidates holding professional financial accreditation. Candidates should have a minimum of 5-7 years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 years in a financial control or similar role. Familiarity with QuickBooks Online (QBO) is advantageous, and proven work experience in West Africa is essential. A deep understanding of the financial frameworks and regulatory environment in Nigeria and ideally the broader region is necessary, along with experience in a commercial business setting.
