Job Overview:
The IT Associate position is crucial for providing reliable and timely IT services within the Area of Responsibility (AoR) of UNHCR. Under the supervision of a (Senior) IT Officer, the incumbent will be responsible for the application and infrastructure of UNHCR's standard IT services. This role involves assessing on-site needs, installing and maintaining telecommunications and IT equipment, and ensuring that all systems are operational and secure. The IT Associate will also be expected to maintain accurate records of installations and repairs, monitor network systems, and provide training to local IT resources and users. The position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining high standards of service delivery.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the IT Associate include assisting in on-site needs assessments, installing and maintaining UNHCR telecommunications and IT equipment, establishing IT requirements in field operations, and ensuring that all equipment is in good working condition. The incumbent will be responsible for maintaining records of installations and repairs, monitoring and maintaining LAN and network servers, and providing technical training to local IT resources. Additionally, the IT Associate will assist in the development and configuration of IT and Telecom equipment for field operations, escalate unresolved issues to supervisors, and support risk management efforts. The role also involves performing other related duties as required, ensuring compliance with UNHCR policies and procedures, and contributing to a safe and respectful working environment.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience with a High School Diploma, or 2 years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. Essential qualifications include experience with HF/VHF radio or IT systems, PAMA satellite systems, PABX, Cisco routers, and satellite modems. Hands-on experience with wireless and VoIP systems, electricity, and generators is desirable. Candidates should also have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in Microsoft Office and other IT tools. Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, and LAN/WAN concepts is essential, along with the ability to troubleshoot basic network connectivity issues.

Educational Background:
The educational background required for this position includes a High School Diploma for candidates with 3 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent for those with 2 years of relevant experience. Certifications in Information Technology are essential, and additional qualifications in related fields are advantageous. Continuous professional development and training in IT systems and telecommunications are encouraged to keep up with technological advancements.

Experience:
The position requires candidates to have at least 3 years of relevant experience in IT support or a related field for those with a High School Diploma, or 2 years of relevant experience for candidates with a Bachelor’s degree. Experience in emergency situations and familiarity with UNHCR operations are considered advantageous. The role demands a proactive individual who can effectively manage IT services and support operational teams in achieving high-quality outcomes.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of additional UN languages is considered an asset. For General Service jobs, candidates should have knowledge of English and/or the UN working language of the duty station if it is not English. Proficiency in local languages is also beneficial for effective communication within the community.
