Job Overview: The Project Manager for the STRengthening Infectious disease DEtection Systems (STRIDES) Activity will be responsible for the overall management, operations, and coordination of the project in Nepal. Reporting to the Project Director, the Project Manager will ensure that all project activities are executed efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with donor and organizational requirements. This role involves overseeing subcontractor planning and budgeting, ensuring alignment with STRIDES’ objectives to strengthen infectious disease detection, surveillance, and response systems. The Project Manager will work closely with technical teams, sub-award partners, and relevant government and stakeholder counterparts to ensure the integrated, high-quality, and timely delivery of project outcomes. Key functions include supporting the implementation of work plans, managing risk and compliance, monitoring progress against performance indicators, and facilitating effective communication among stakeholders. The Project Manager will also promote learning and documentation of best practices to support adaptive management and continuous improvement in program implementation, ultimately contributing to the advancement of Nepal’s global health security agenda.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Manager will coordinate and ensure the development and implementation of subcontractor activities from initiation to completion based on established project scope, goals, and deliverables. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of the project workplan, ensuring overall progress, and maintaining documentation and reporting accuracy. The Project Manager will lead communications with partners and subcontractors, ensuring alignment and addressing any concerns. They will coordinate team members to meet project objectives and deliverables, fostering a collaborative work environment. The role involves providing guidance and monitoring for project staff and subcontractors, developing best practices and tools for project execution, and evaluating the progress of planned activities regularly. The Project Manager will build and grow partnerships vital to the project's success, manage budgets in alignment with project activities, and oversee operational and tactical aspects of program activities. They will proactively identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies, establish communication schedules for stakeholder updates, and collaborate with various teams for consultant hiring and procurement. The Project Manager will also ensure compliance with donor and organizational requirements, coach and mentor project staff, and perform other programmatic, administrative, and coordination duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Administration, Project Management, International Development, or a related field. Professional training or certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP, PRINCE2) is an added advantage. A minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices is typically required, along with at least 2 years of line management experience. Candidates should have experience managing staff, subcontractors, or consultants, and possess strong networking and team mobilization skills. Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO), government agency, or private organization, particularly with managing United States government (USG) funded awards, is essential. Familiarity with USG rules and regulations is also required, along with international or domestic program development or project management experience.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree or equivalent in fields such as Public Health, Epidemiology, Health Administration, Project Management, International Development, or related disciplines. Additional professional training or certification in Project Management is considered a valuable asset.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of 8+ years of relevant experience in project management principles and practices, with at least 2 years of line management experience. Candidates should have a proven track record of managing staff, subcontractors, or consultants, and demonstrate strong networking and team mobilization skills. Experience in managing USG funded awards and familiarity with USG rules and regulations is essential, along with international or domestic program development or project management experience.
Languages: Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Nepali are mandatory for this position. Documentation skills in both languages are also required. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.
