Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer will play a crucial role in supporting the Operations and Programme Officers at UNFPA Rwanda to effectively implement the 9th Country Programme. This position focuses on enhancing logistics and supply chain operations, particularly in the areas of reproductive health commodities and humanitarian support. The volunteer will assist in data collection and analysis to identify vulnerable populations, ensuring that advocacy interventions are prioritized accordingly. The role is integral to ensuring that young people are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills regarding reproductive health and rights, thereby enabling their active participation in development and humanitarian actions. The volunteer will work closely with the Operations Manager and the Logistics Associate to ensure that logistics operations are timely and effective, contributing to the overall impact of UNFPA's mission.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The UN Volunteer will have a diverse set of responsibilities, including:
  • Logistics Planning and Coordination Support: Assisting in the preparation and implementation of logistics and supply plans, coordinating transportation and distribution of reproductive health commodities and emergency supplies, tracking shipments and deliveries, and ensuring proper storage of UNFPA goods.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintaining up-to-date records on logistics transactions, generating logistics reports, ensuring compliance with audit requirements, and managing the distribution of goods effectively.
  • Coordination and Capacity Building: Collaborating with UN agencies and partners on logistics matters, establishing partnerships to facilitate the movement of commodities, and supporting capacity building for implementing partners.
  • Compliance and Risk Management: Ensuring adherence to UNFPA policies on logistics and asset management, identifying risks in logistics processes, and proposing mitigating actions. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication with various stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must demonstrate integrity and professionalism, with a strong ability to apply good judgment and work independently. They should possess effective organizational and problem-solving skills, be able to manage a large volume of work efficiently, and establish priorities. A commitment to continuous learning and adaptability to changes in the work environment is essential. Additionally, candidates should have proven interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse backgrounds and maintain composure in challenging situations. Flexibility and a genuine commitment to the principles of voluntary engagement are also critical.

Educational Background:
A relevant educational background is required, typically including a degree in logistics, supply chain management, public health, or a related field. Candidates should have a solid understanding of logistics operations and supply chain management principles, as well as familiarity with the humanitarian context in which UNFPA operates.

Experience:
Candidates should have prior experience in logistics or supply chain management, preferably within a humanitarian or development context. Experience working with UN agencies or similar organizations is highly desirable. The role requires a demonstrated ability to coordinate logistics operations and manage multiple tasks effectively under pressure.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, as it is the working language of UNFPA. Knowledge of French or Kinyarwanda is considered an asset, as it may facilitate communication with local stakeholders and enhance the effectiveness of logistics operations.

Additional Notes:
This position is a volunteer role, and the UN Volunteer will receive a monthly living allowance to cover basic needs such as housing, utilities, transportation, and communication. The allowance is designed to enable the volunteer to maintain a secure standard of living in Kigali, in line with United Nations standards. It is important to note that this allowance is not a salary or compensation for services rendered, but rather a support mechanism to ensure the volunteer's well-being during their engagement with UNFPA.
