Job Overview: The Communication and Resource Mobilization Officer will play a crucial role in enhancing the visibility of UN Women’s programmatic needs and Japan’s support. The incumbent will be responsible for formulating and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy aimed at sensitizing the Japanese public about UN Women’s initiatives. This includes producing various communication materials such as reports, brochures, videos, and social media content to raise awareness and promote Japan’s contributions. The Officer will also engage in resource mobilization efforts, particularly from the private sector, and will work closely with the Partnership Specialist to develop strategies that align with UN Women’s priorities. The role requires a proactive approach to identifying trends in media and communication, as well as coordinating with various stakeholders to ensure effective dissemination of information and advocacy for gender equality.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Formulate and implement a communication strategy to enhance visibility for UN Women’s global programmatic needs and Japan’s support. This includes producing communication content, engaging with media, and managing communication risks.
Coordinate with UN Women offices and key stakeholders to enhance resource mobilization and communication related to Japan-supported projects. This involves sourcing content, reviewing communication materials, and collaborating with the UN Women Japan National Committee.
Investigate ways to mobilize resources from the private sector, particularly through the Women Empowerment Principles (WEPs), and explore partnerships with relevant organizations.
Perform other duties as necessary for the efficient functioning of the Office and the Organization.
Required Qualifications: The ideal candidate should possess strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a proven ability to engage diverse stakeholders. They should have experience in developing communication strategies and materials, as well as a solid understanding of gender issues and advocacy. The candidate should also demonstrate creativity in problem-solving and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Knowledge of resource mobilization strategies and experience in working with the private sector would be advantageous.
Educational Background: A bachelor’s degree in communications, international relations, gender studies, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in a relevant discipline would be an asset and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, advocacy, or resource mobilization, preferably within an international organization or non-profit sector. Experience working on gender equality issues and familiarity with the UN system would be beneficial.
Languages: Fluency in Japanese is mandatory, as the role requires engaging with local stakeholders and the public. Proficiency in English is also required to communicate effectively with international colleagues and stakeholders. Knowledge of additional languages would be considered an asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a national UN Volunteer assignment, meaning the selected candidate will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The role is expected to be full-time, and the incumbent will work closely with various stakeholders to promote gender equality initiatives in Japan.
