Job Overview: The Business & Feasibility Expert will play a crucial role in the rehabilitation of the Mar Mikhael train station, a project aimed at restoring the site while enhancing its industrial heritage identity. This position involves developing a comprehensive feasibility study and a business and management plan that will ensure the financial sustainability of the project. The expert will analyze viable revenue-generating activities and management models, fostering community engagement and supporting creative industries. The role requires close collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Directorate General of Railways and Public Transport (DGRPT), UN-Habitat, and UNESCO, to ensure that the project aligns with institutional objectives and stakeholder expectations. The expert will also contribute to the sustainable urban development of the area, promoting inclusive public spaces and the adaptive reuse of cultural heritage.
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities of the Business & Feasibility Expert include: conducting analytical and strategic work to inform decision-making regarding the management and operation of the Mar Mikhael train station; providing evidence-based recommendations on governance and operational models; engaging in continuous coordination with DGRPT and relevant government entities; ensuring compliance with applicable norms and regulations; participating in project coordination meetings and workshops; preparing and delivering presentations to communicate findings and recommendations; and coordinating with legal advisors and technical teams to ensure coherence and regulatory compliance. The expert will work closely with the Director General of DGRPT and other key stakeholders throughout the project.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a Master’s degree in business consultancy, project development, or feasibility studies. A first-level degree with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of a Master’s degree. An MBA is desirable. Additionally, candidates should have a minimum of seven years of proven progressive experience in business consultancy, project development, and feasibility studies, particularly within the development or humanitarian sector. Experience with the United Nations System is also desirable, along with a strong background in drafting feasibility studies, plans, and strategies.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this position includes a Master’s degree in business consultancy, project development, or feasibility studies. Alternatively, a first-level degree combined with two additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. An MBA is considered an asset for this role, indicating a higher level of expertise in business management and strategy.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of progressive experience in business consultancy, project development, and feasibility studies. Candidates with experience in the development and humanitarian sectors, particularly those who have worked with the United Nations System, will be preferred. Previous experience with similar projects, especially in urban development or cultural heritage, is also desirable, as it will provide valuable insights into the complexities of the role.
Languages: For this position, proficiency in both Arabic and English is required, as these are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Candidates must demonstrate advanced skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in both languages, meeting the UN Level III standards. Knowledge of French is also beneficial, although not mandatory, as it may enhance communication with various stakeholders.
