Job Overview:
The security" style="border-bottom: 1px dotted #007bff !important;">Security Officer position is a temporary role located within the Security Unit of the Internal Services and Administration Department (INTSERV) at the ILO headquarters in Geneva. This part-time position, requiring a commitment of 50% of full-time hours, is set for a duration of six months. The Security Unit is responsible for a wide array of services, including facilities management, environmental sustainability, occupational safety and health, and security management. The Security Officer will report directly to the Head of the Security Unit and will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and security of ILO staff, premises, and visitors, particularly during major events and high-level visits. The role involves advising on security plans, conducting risk assessments, and managing security measures for significant events, thereby contributing to the overall safety framework of the organization.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The Security Officer will be tasked with several key responsibilities, including advising on updates to security and safety action plans and contingency plans in line with UN policies. The officer will assess security and safety issues related to threats and risks at ILO headquarters and recommend operational measures to enhance security. Conducting risk assessments for major events, such as the International Labour Conference (ILC) and Governing Body sessions, is essential, requiring collaboration with various departments and external entities. The officer will also guide security staff in preparing for the opening of a new security pavilion and perimeter, assess equipment needs, and oversee the maintenance of safety and security installations. Additionally, the officer will prepare reports on access control and safety challenges, assist the Head of the Security Unit in advisory roles, and act as the security focal point for significant meetings.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree in security management, engineering, architecture, or a related field, including fire safety science. Alternatively, a first-level university degree combined with three additional years of relevant experience may be accepted. Qualifications in Swiss Fire protection standards and the Security Certification Programme (SCP) are considered assets. The role requires a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in security, risk, or emergency management, with a focus on leadership in security operations, contingency planning, and crisis management. Experience in fire safety compliance and security management systems within the UN or similar organizations is desirable.

Educational Background:
The educational requirements for this position include an advanced university degree in a relevant field such as security management, engineering, or architecture. Candidates with a first-level university degree may be considered if they have additional qualifying experience. Specialized training in fire safety and security standards is advantageous.

Experience:
The position requires at least seven years of progressively responsible experience in security and risk management, ideally within public or private sectors, including military or police service. Leadership experience in security operations, particularly in contingency planning and crisis management, is essential. Familiarity with fire safety compliance and security management systems in international organizations is preferred.

Languages:
Candidates must have an excellent command of one working language, either English or French, and a good knowledge of the other language. Proficiency in both languages is crucial for effective communication in this role.
