CERN's commitment to diversity and inclusion is central to its success, fostering an environment where innovation thrives and every contribution is valued.

Job Overview:
As an Electrical Technician in the Cabling Section at CERN, you will play a crucial role in the expansion, strengthening, and maintenance of CERN's control and power cable installations. This position is vital for supporting essential systems within CERN's accelerators, including alarm systems, process control systems, beam instrumentation, and magnet powering systems. Your responsibilities will include analyzing cable installation requests, conducting necessary studies to define cable types and routing, creating bills of quantities and budgets, and organizing cabling campaigns. You will also prepare detailed work documentation, carry out risk assessments, manage logistics for cabling activities, and ensure compliance with CERN standards. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with various stakeholders to ensure the successful execution of cabling projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct studies to define cable types, connectors assembly, wire conventions, routing, and mechanical supports in collaboration with users.
  • Create bills of quantities and budgets for cabling projects.
  • Organize cabling and de-cabling campaigns, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders such as contractors and transport services.
  • Prepare detailed work documentation, including drawings, cable lists, connector assembly procedures, and test procedures.
  • Carry out risk assessments related to cabling work, identifying potential hazards and defining mitigation measures.
  • Manage logistics for cabling activities, including material delivery and site access.

Demonstrated experience in planning, preparing, and overseeing industrial electrical cabling activities is essential, along with strong experience with control and power cables and their connectors. Candidates should also have experience in verifying the technical quality and compliance of cabling installations with applicable standards and specifications, as well as technical supervision of contractors.

Educational Background:
A technical certificate or general secondary education in a relevant field is required. Candidates with equivalent relevant experience in Industrial Electrical Installation or related disciplines will also be considered.

Experience:
Candidates should have demonstrated experience in planning, preparing, and overseeing industrial electrical cabling activities. This includes implementing lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensuring compliance with safety standards. Experience in technical supervision of contractors and verifying the quality of cabling installations is also necessary.
