Job Overview:
The Social Media and Marketing Intern will be part of the Communications Section of the External Relations Service under the Division of Global Communications Service (GSC) at UNHCR Caracas, Venezuela. This half-time internship is designed for enthusiastic students in their final year of Communications studies, who possess skills in video production, photography, and social media management. The intern will play a vital role in creating engaging content for various digital platforms, including social media channels, to enhance UNHCR's visibility and engagement with external audiences. The position requires a proactive approach to content creation, community management, and analytics to support the organization's communication objectives effectively. The intern will work closely with the Communications Associate and will be expected to contribute to the overall digital strategy and campaigns of UNHCR Venezuela.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The intern will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including:
  • Content Production: Creating engaging content for social media platforms such as X/Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Wordpress. Assisting with copywriting, video production, editing, and photo editing for social media posts. Supporting the development of public information messages tailored to different audiences.
  • Digital Strategy & Campaigns: Contributing to the implementation of social media strategies that align with UNHCR's communication objectives.
  • Community Management: Monitoring social media channels and supporting responses to comments and messages. Helping manage community engagement to strengthen UNHCR's online presence.
  • Analytics & Reporting: Tracking the performance of social media posts and identifying high engagement content. Participating in occasional content gathering missions to projects and activities within the Caracas area.

Required Qualifications:
To be eligible for this internship, candidates must meet the following criteria:
  • Be a recent graduate (having completed their studies within two years of applying) or a current student in a graduate/undergraduate program from an accredited university or higher education facility.
  • Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant to UNHCR's work.
  • Not have exhausted the maximum cumulative internship period with UNHCR, which is 8 months for full-time and 12 months for part-time internships. Desirable qualifications include proficiency in English at B2 level, native Spanish speaker, excellent knowledge of social media and digital platforms, expert user of Canva, and experience in video editing.

Educational Background:
Candidates should have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a relevant field such as Communications, Media Studies, or a related discipline. A background in digital marketing or social media management is highly advantageous, as it aligns with the responsibilities of the internship.

Experience:
The position is aimed at students or recent graduates who have some experience in video production, photography, and social media management. While prior internship experience is not mandatory, familiarity with digital content creation and community engagement strategies is preferred.

Languages:
The primary language required for this position is English at a B2 level. Additionally, being a native Spanish speaker is essential, as it will facilitate communication and content creation for the local audience. Knowledge of other languages may be considered an asset but is not mandatory.

Additional Notes:
This internship is part-time, with working hours from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm Monday to Friday, or from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm Monday to Thursday and from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm on Fridays, totaling 20 hours per week. Interns who do not receive financial support from an external party will receive an allowance to help cover food, local transportation, and living expenses. Travel costs for interns coming from outside the country will be reimbursed for the most economical route available. Internships typically last between two to six months, with the possibility of extension up to eight months for full-time internships and twelve months for part-time internships. Candidates are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and health insurance coverage.
