Job Overview: The Curatorial Consultant for Museum Concept Development will play a crucial role in the OSCE's ExB project, Stakeholder Engagement for Uranium Legacy Remediation in Central Asia, Phase III. This position involves leading and coordinating the curatorial development and content production for the Museum of the History of Uranium Mining in Tajikistan, which is set to be located in Buston. The consultant will be responsible for ensuring a coherent museum narrative and delivering production-ready content in close coordination with the Museum Designer and key stakeholders. The role requires a deep understanding of exhibition development, including the creation of storylines, scripts, and interpretive texts that cater to diverse audiences. The consultant will also oversee the planning and execution of content production, quality control, and the capacity building of the local museum team. This position is vital for maximizing the project's benefits and ensuring effective communication and engagement with the affected communities.
Duties and Responsibilities: The consultant will undertake a series of tasks divided into four phases, each with specific responsibilities. In Phase 1, the consultant will participate in kick-off meetings, review existing materials, define target audiences, and develop the museum narrative and storyline. In Phase 2, the consultant will finalize texts in multiple languages, draft exhibition texts, develop scripts for educational installations, and compile a photo and document archive. Phase 3 involves finalizing and proofreading all texts, delivering a digital archive, supporting content-to-design integration, and conducting training for the local museum team. Finally, in Phase 4, the consultant will compile a final report documenting outputs and ensure the handover of the full content package to the OSCE and the museum host institution. Throughout these phases, the consultant will work closely with various stakeholders to ensure the successful development and implementation of the museum's content.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a first-level university degree or equivalent in museology, cultural management, history, art, visual culture, or a related field. Additionally, a minimum of three years of professional experience in cultural development and/or production of exhibition content is required. The ideal candidate should have knowledge of exhibition development, including the creation of exhibition storylines and scripts, as well as experience in archival research and content rights management. Strong organizational skills, particularly in managing content with clear metadata and structured file systems, are essential. The candidate should also demonstrate the ability to collaborate with international and national experts and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree (first-level university degree or equivalent) in a relevant field such as museology, cultural management, history, art, or visual culture is required for this position. This educational background provides the foundational knowledge necessary for curatorial work and content development in a museum setting.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of three years of professional experience in cultural development and/or the production of exhibition content. Languages: Professional fluency in Tajik and Russian (both oral and written) is mandatory for this position.
