Job Overview: The OSCE POiD is seeking qualified candidates for internships that will last between two to six months. Interns will be involved in both administrative and programmatic areas across various departments, including politico-military, economic and environmental, and human dimensions. The internship program is designed to provide participants with a well-rounded professional experience, mentorship, and insight into the daily operations of the OSCE. Interns will have the opportunity to develop their professional skills, gain practical experience in a multinational environment, and connect with like-minded young professionals. The internships can be either full-time (40 hours per week) or part-time (20 hours per week), and are exclusively available to nationals of OSCE participating States or Partners for Co-operation.
Duties and Responsibilities: Interns will be assigned to specific departments and projects, where they will undertake a variety of tasks. These include drafting research papers, policy reports, and other written materials such as briefing papers and presentations. They will assist in collecting information, monitoring, and reporting, as well as project implementation, which involves scheduling, maintaining records, and organizing meetings or events. Interns will provide translation and interpretation support as needed, conduct thematic research, assist with document revisions, media monitoring, and financial analyses. They will also support communication-related activities, including website updates and creating content for social media. Additionally, interns will help organize events, take minutes during meetings, draft official records, and engage in daily operational work relevant to their assigned units. They will assist senior managers in preparing for trips and meetings, compiling background documents, and managing logistics.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must be between 19 and 30 years of age by the application deadline. They should have completed at least two years of full-time post-secondary education at an accredited institution or have graduated within two years prior to the deadline in a relevant field such as international relations, political science, law, human rights, economics, finance, environmental studies, or security studies. Applicants must demonstrate initiative, organizational, research, analytical, and drafting skills. Professional fluency in English is required, along with excellent communication skills. Candidates should also show gender awareness and sensitivity, and the ability to work in a diverse team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft applications is necessary.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes at least two years of full-time post-secondary education in fields relevant to the OSCE's mandate. This includes areas such as international relations, political science, law, human rights, economics, finance, environmental studies, and security studies. Graduates who have completed their studies within the last two years are also eligible to apply, provided their education aligns with the OSCE's focus areas.
Experience: While previous work experience or internships in a relevant field are desirable, they are not mandatory. Candidates with experience in a multilateral or multicultural environment will have an advantage. The OSCE values diverse experiences that contribute to the intern's ability to engage effectively in the organization's work.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, as all interviews will be conducted in English. Knowledge of Russian and/or Tajik is considered an asset, enhancing the intern's ability to communicate within the diverse environment of the OSCE.
Additional Notes: The OSCE does not provide remuneration for internships or reimbursement for travel expenses. However, the office will contribute towards the cost of living for non-resident interns. The internship duration ranges from 2 to 6 months and does not guarantee future employment with the OSCE. Selected interns without existing health insurance will participate in a group health insurance scheme at their own expense, while the OSCE covers life and disability insurance.
