Job Overview:
The position of Education for Sustainable Development Coordinator is pivotal in supporting UNESCO's mission to integrate sustainable development into education systems worldwide. The incumbent will work within the Section of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), which is focused on leading global initiatives that address critical sustainability challenges through education. This role involves coordinating the Greening Education Partnership (GEP), which aims to enhance climate change education and promote sustainable practices in educational settings. The coordinator will be responsible for facilitating collaboration among various stakeholders, including member states, educational institutions, and civil society organizations, to ensure effective implementation of ESD initiatives. The position requires a proactive approach to developing training programs, organizing events, and providing technical support to enhance the capacity of educators and institutions in delivering quality education for sustainable development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The incumbent will perform a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
  • Coordinating the membership of the Greening Education Partnership, particularly focusing on working group 4, which addresses greening communities. This includes organizing regular meetings, implementing guidance, and providing logistical support for quarterly meetings.
  • Developing and delivering a training of trainers program, which involves liaising with UNESCO Field staff and external partners, reviewing course materials, and assisting in training delivery.
  • Organizing and providing technical support for meetings and webinars related to climate change education, including capacity building webinars and high-level events during COP 3
  • Assisting in the preparation for the ESD World Conference scheduled for the end of 2026, which includes organizing regional consultations, communicating with participants, and drafting conference documents.
  • Performing any additional tasks assigned by the team leader to support the ESD program's objectives.

Required Qualifications:
Candidates must possess an advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in education, sustainable development, social sciences, or related fields. The role requires a strong foundation in educational principles and sustainable development practices, as well as the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders effectively.
