Job Overview:
The UN Volunteer Data Analyst will play a crucial role in supporting UNICEF Ukraine's efforts to increase the demand and readiness for the use of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) data. This position involves producing additional analyses beyond standard MICS products and supporting broader child-related data work, including administrative and secondary data management. The role requires a strong understanding of data interpretation and communication, as well as the ability to engage with various stakeholders, including government agencies and research communities. The UNV will be responsible for building and updating a practical MICS analysis plan, conducting hands-on analysis, and ensuring that the data is used effectively to inform policy and program decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities of the UN Volunteer Data Analyst include:
  • Building and updating a practical MICS analysis plan by drafting and prioritizing feasible plans for additional analyses linked to intended use.
  • Supporting UNICEF's engagement with high-level counterparts by assisting in work with MICS Technical/Steering Committees and government agencies to identify priority policy and monitoring questions.
  • Conducting hands-on analysis of MICS microdata and other child-related data, producing tables, figures, visualizations, and summaries.
  • Supporting MICS data-use readiness by explaining what MICS measures and providing technical inputs to stakeholder-facing materials.
  • Engaging with academia, think tanks, and partners to identify research questions and translate needs into feasible analysis requests.
  • Supporting data compilation and documentation by collecting, cleaning, and organizing child-related administrative and secondary data.
  • Ensuring technical quality and reporting by working with the National MICS Consultant and UNICEF team to ensure accurate interpretation and engagement materials.

Required Qualifications:
The position requires a strong background in data analysis, statistics, and research methodologies. Candidates should possess excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex data findings clearly. Familiarity with child rights issues and experience working with government agencies or international organizations is highly desirable. Additionally, candidates should demonstrate a commitment to UNICEF's mission and values, including professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.

Educational Background:
A bachelor's degree in statistics, social sciences, public health, or a related field is required. A master's degree in a relevant discipline is preferred and may enhance the candidate's qualifications for the role.

Experience:
Candidates should have at least 2-3 years of relevant experience in data analysis, research, or a related field. Experience working with child-related data and familiarity with MICS or similar surveys will be considered an asset. The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and engage with diverse stakeholders is essential.

Languages:
Fluency in English is mandatory, and knowledge of Ukrainian or Russian is highly desirable. Proficiency in additional languages may be considered an advantage, especially in the context of engaging with various stakeholders and partners.

Additional Notes:
This is a full-time national UN Volunteer assignment, and the volunteer is responsible for organizing their own accommodation. The contract duration is specified in the vacancy announcement, with the possibility of extensions based on funding availability and performance. The position offers a Volunteer Living Allowance (VLA) of USD 2246 per month, along with a one-time entry lump sum payment of USD 40
