Job Overview: The Project Assistant (Operations) will play a crucial role in the implementation of the 'Helios+: Comprehensive actions for the integration of third-country nationals into the labour market' project in the Region of Crete. This position involves close collaboration with national and local authorities, as well as experienced partners, to promote the integration of beneficiaries of international protection and temporary protection into Greek society. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing interpretation and translation services, making initial contact with beneficiaries, and building respectful and trusting relationships with them. The role also includes responding to calls received on the project’s helpline, identifying new issues, and reporting them to the Project Assistant. The Project Assistant will develop and maintain good relations with beneficiaries and stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and coordination of project activities. Additionally, the candidate will assist in mediation activities and provide general support to other project staff as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide interpretation and translation services to beneficiaries of the project.
Make initial contact with beneficiaries and establish a relationship of respect and trust.
Respond to calls received on the project’s helpline, identify new issues, and report them to the Project Assistant.
Maintain a helpline tracker to record calls and issues raised.
Develop and maintain good relations with beneficiaries, relevant stakeholders, and other humanitarian actors.
Identify gaps and barriers that prevent beneficiaries from accessing available services.
Translate documents and information materials for dissemination to project beneficiaries.
Assist in mediation activities in cooperation with IOM staff.
Provide general assistance to other project staff during project activities in HELIOS+ Centers and Reception Facilities. 1
Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
High school degree/certificate with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience.
A university degree from an accredited academic institution is an advantage.
Previous work experience in a similar role is required.
Experience working in a multi-cultural environment is preferred.
Adequate combination of knowledge, education, training, experience, and skills to perform essential functions of the position.
Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles are essential.
A valid driver’s license with at least five years of driving experience is an advantage.
Educational Background: Candidates must possess at least a high school degree or certificate, with a minimum of one year of relevant work experience. A university degree from an accredited academic institution is considered an advantage. Accredited universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database, ensuring that candidates have received a recognized and quality education that prepares them for the responsibilities of the position.
Experience: Candidates should have previous work experience in a similar role, demonstrating their ability to perform the essential functions of the position effectively. Experience in working within a multi-cultural environment is preferred, as it indicates the candidate's ability to navigate diverse cultural contexts and engage with beneficiaries from various backgrounds. This experience is crucial for fostering trust and understanding with the individuals served by the project.
Languages: Fluency in English and Greek is required for this position, both oral and written. Additionally, fluency in Arabic is also required, as it is essential for effective communication with beneficiaries. IOM’s official languages include English, French, and Spanish, but proficiency in English, Greek, and Arabic will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments to ensure candidates meet the language requirements necessary for the role.
