Job Overview: The Partnership Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the Sustainable Responses Service (SRS) at UNHCR by engaging with various UN partners, including UNDP, ILO, WFP, FAO, and UNDCO. The primary objective of this position is to advance sustainable responses and solutions for forcibly displaced and stateless populations. The officer will work closely with technical leads to ensure that partnerships are strategically aligned with UNHCR's corporate strategies and SRS priorities. This role involves analytical, coordination, and advisory functions to strengthen collaboration across the UN system, ensuring that the needs of refugees and other displaced individuals are integrated into national development plans and sector strategies. The officer will also contribute to knowledge management and visibility efforts for refugee inclusion in global forums.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Partnerships Officer will undertake a variety of duties, including supporting SRS technical leads in collaboration with UN agencies, serving as the internal focal point for partnership engagement, consolidating and maintaining an overview of partnership agreements, and coordinating the development of joint strategies and action plans. The officer will engage with PCS and the New York Office to provide technical and advisory inputs to Regional Bureaus and Country Operations, monitor UN policy developments, prepare analytical inputs for senior management, and contribute to capacity-building initiatives. Additionally, the officer will support knowledge management efforts and elevate the visibility of refugee inclusion in global UN forums.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong analytical and coordination skills, effective drafting and communication abilities, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks in a multicultural environment. Proven stakeholder management skills and sound judgment in institutional engagement are essential. A strong understanding of the humanitarian-development-peace nexus and the ability to link humanitarian action with long-term solutions are also required.
Educational Background: An advanced university degree in economics, development studies, political science, policy studies, or a related field is required. A first-level degree combined with additional relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree.
Experience: Candidates should have at least 6 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree, 5 years with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a Doctorate degree. Experience with UN agencies and development processes is required, along with demonstrated experience in inter-agency coordination and partnership development. Familiarity with UNHCR's mandate and operational approaches related to durable solutions and sustainable responses is also necessary.
Languages: Fluency in English is mandatory, while knowledge of French and/or another UN language is considered an asset.
