The intern will report directly to the associate programme management officer at RPD and will be involved in various tasks that support the RPD Front Office. The role is designed to enhance the intern's understanding of the UN's operations while contributing to the effective delivery of programs and initiatives. The intern will assist in the consolidation and quality review of reporting inputs, track key activities and deliverables, and help maintain relevant matrices and dashboards. Additionally, the intern will support the preparation of briefing materials and timelines, ensuring coherence across RPD-HQ functions, and facilitate structured information flows between headquarters and field offices. This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in data management, basic analysis, and data visualization, contributing to cross-regional knowledge management and learning.
Duties and Responsibilities: The intern's responsibilities will include:
Supporting divisional and corporate reporting requests by consolidating and reviewing inputs from Regional and Country Offices.
Assisting in the oversight of regional and country portfolios, tracking key activities, deliverables, and priorities, and maintaining relevant matrices and dashboards.
Coordinating RPD inputs to corporate processes and governing bodies, including preparing briefing materials and timelines.
Ensuring coherence across RPD-HQ functions and alignment with other headquarters divisions.
Facilitating structured information flows between headquarters and the field, tracking requests, deadlines, and follow-up actions.
Supporting data management, basic analysis, and data visualization, including preparing or updating dashboards, tables, and summaries.
Contributing to cross-regional knowledge management and learning by documenting good practices and lessons learned.
Assisting in the preparation of presentations, briefing notes, and background documents for RPD senior management.
Performing other related duties as required by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with a Bachelor's degree, Master's, PhD, or equivalent. Additionally, candidates should be computer literate in standard software applications, particularly the Microsoft Office Suite. A keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter are essential. Candidates should also demonstrate the ability to interact successfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing a willingness to understand and tolerate differing opinions and views.
Educational Background: The educational background required for this internship includes being a student in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), or being enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. Programme, or having completed a Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. Programme. Preferred areas of study include International Development, Public Administration, International Relations, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Management, Urban Studies, or a related field. This educational foundation is crucial as it aligns with the responsibilities and expectations of the internship role.
Experience: While applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience, it is preferred that they have a field of study closely related to the internship they are applying for. Experience in data management and familiarity with analytical and data visualization software, such as Power BI, is desirable. This experience will enhance the intern's ability to contribute effectively to the tasks assigned during the internship.
Languages: Fluency in oral and written English is required for this internship position, as English is one of the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Knowledge of another UN language is considered desirable and may enhance the candidate's profile, particularly in a multicultural work environment where diverse languages are spoken.
