Job Overview: The National United Nations Volunteer (UNV) Reporting and Communication Officer will play a crucial role in supporting the PROMIS project, which aims to protect migrants and enhance the capacities of West African states in addressing human rights violations related to irregular migration. The incumbent will be responsible for preparing various reports on the human rights situation in the countries where the PROMIS project is implemented, ensuring compliance with established standards. The position requires close collaboration with project staff and involves drafting, reviewing, and editing periodic reports, contributing to donor reports, and developing communication strategies to improve the visibility of the PROMIS project. The Reporting and Communication Officer will also be tasked with integrating gender perspectives into all activities and maintaining databases and archival systems. This role is essential for ensuring that the human rights of migrants are effectively communicated and advocated for within the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including: preparing donor reports and reports on the human rights situation in PROMIS project countries; drafting, reviewing, and editing periodic reports on human rights, particularly focusing on migrants; contributing to the preparation of donor reports using information from field teams; creating briefing notes and background materials for meetings with external partners; integrating gender perspectives into all activities; maintaining and designing databases and archival systems; developing and implementing a communication strategy for the PROMIS project; enhancing the project's online presence through multimedia content; liaising with advocacy partners and civil society organizations; evaluating the impact of communication activities; and performing any other relevant tasks as requested by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to draft and edit reports and other materials effectively. They should demonstrate creativity and the ability to develop engaging communication strategies. A solid understanding of human rights issues, particularly related to migration, is essential. The candidate should also have experience in maintaining databases and archival systems, as well as the ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Cultural sensitivity and adaptability to local customs and traditions are crucial for success in this role.
Educational Background: A bachelor's degree in communications, human rights, international relations, social sciences, or a related field is required. Advanced degrees or specialized training in relevant areas will be considered an asset.
Experience: Candidates should have a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in communications, reporting, or human rights advocacy. Experience working with international organizations, NGOs, or in a similar context will be highly regarded. Familiarity with the West African region and its human rights landscape is advantageous.
Languages: Fluency in English and French is mandatory, as these are the primary languages of communication within the organization and the region. Knowledge of additional languages spoken in West Africa would be considered a valuable asset.
Additional Notes: This position is a National UN Youth Volunteer assignment, which means the volunteer will be responsible for arranging their own housing and living essentials. The contract duration is subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance, with no expectation of renewal. The Volunteer Living Allowance will be provided monthly to cover living expenses, and the position includes life, health, and permanent disability insurance. Additionally, a Well-Being Differential will be provided monthly for non-family duty stations classified as hardship categories D or E.
