Job Posting Organization: The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a prominent international humanitarian non-governmental organization (INGO) founded in 1933 at the behest of Albert Einstein. The IRC operates in over 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities, focusing on restoring health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and empowerment to individuals affected by conflict and disaster. With a mission to help people survive, reclaim control of their futures, and strengthen their communities, the IRC is recognized as one of the largest organizations in its field, delivering impactful humanitarian assistance and advocating for the rights and dignity of those in need.
Job Overview: The Project Coordinator will play a pivotal role in the 'Ensemble pour la SDSR en Urgences' initiative, which aims to enhance sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) in humanitarian settings across the Sahel region, particularly in Chad, Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. This position requires the individual to manage the project work plan, budget, and deliverables while ensuring effective program implementation across three strategic objectives: strengthening regional coalitions for SRHR advocacy, enhancing national coordination for SRHR service delivery, and developing frameworks for local ownership of SRHR programming. The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for fostering partnerships, providing technical assistance, and ensuring alignment with donor requirements and project goals, all while navigating the complexities of humanitarian crises in the region.
Duties and Responsibilities: The Project Coordinator's responsibilities include developing and tracking the project work plan and deliverables, monitoring program quality and performance, managing the project budget, and serving as the primary contact for IRC stakeholders. They will build relationships with regional partners, facilitate coordination meetings, lead advocacy initiatives, and provide technical assistance to strengthen SRHR coordination at national and sub-national levels. The role also involves co-leading the development of power-shifting frameworks, overseeing partnerships with local organizations, and ensuring high-quality reporting to donors. The Project Coordinator will document best practices and facilitate training workshops, ensuring that the project meets its objectives and contributes to sustainable change in the region.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must possess a minimum of seven years of experience in public healthproject management, including at least two years managing regional or multi-country projects in developing and humanitarian settings. Experience in West or Central Africa is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate should have a proven track record in managing SRHR projects, particularly in resource-limited and humanitarian contexts, and demonstrate strong advocacy skills, partnership management expertise, and a commitment to localization and power-shifting in humanitarian action. Excellent facilitation, writing, and mentoring skills are also essential, along with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Educational Background: A Master of Public Health or an equivalent degree is required for this position. A clinical background is considered a plus, as it may enhance the candidate's understanding of the health-related aspects of the role and the complexities involved in SRHR programming in emergencies.
Experience: The position requires a minimum of seven years of relevant work experience, with a focus on public health project management. Candidates should have experience managing regional or multi-country projects of similar size and complexity, particularly in developing and humanitarian contexts. Previous experience in West or Central Africa is highly desirable, as it will provide valuable insights into the regional challenges and dynamics.
Languages: Written and spoken competency in French is mandatory for this role, as it is essential for communication with local partners and stakeholders. A working knowledge of English is preferred, as it may facilitate collaboration with international teams and reporting to global stakeholders.
Additional Notes: This position is contingent upon the successful award of funding and involves frequent travel to project countries, including Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, and Chad, with international and regional travel expected to be up to 40% of the time. The role is based in one of the project countries, and the IRC emphasizes adherence to professional standards and core values, including integrity, service, equality, and accountability. The organization is committed to creating a safe environment for its employees and beneficiaries, implementing policies to safeguard against misconduct and ensuring that all team members promote critical reflection and collaborative problem-solving.
